Have had it since they started. No "catch", use it, they credit you with the cost of sales tax (in California that is substantial) and I pay my credit card off each month. I know people who have bought very expensive lenses and cameras with it, no problem (so far haven't made any big purchases myself since I got the card, just smaller ones). The only "catch", you have to buy from B&H to get the sales tax credit (can use the credit card anywhere). And if you don't pay it off each month, there is a big interest charge (like all credit cards).

Just pay the balance when B&H ships.

If as he said, he paid it off in 2 months and in 2 monthly payment his interest would be about 5%. Some savings in some states but not much.

Any experience in the B&H Photo's PayBoo card? Is it a good idea to have/use one? What is the catch?

A great idea if you live in a high tax state. If you cannot afford to pay off the balance in the first month, the interest rates associated with the card are very high.

Their bank couldn't verify I existed, sent me a questionnaire, answered it, wanted written application, Told Them To Shove IT, not worth the hassle! BTW , no problems with other credit ops.

Bought a Sony RX100 VII for about $1300. used PayBoo...NO Sales Tax! --Saved about $115.

There are NO gimmicks with this card.

Works like B&H says it does. However you must pay off the total balance by the first due date. If not, you will be charged 29.99% interest on the balance. Which could easily be more than what you saved in sales tax relief.

I had a similar problem. The bank said it couldn't identify me, and wanted me to take a photo of my driver's license with a cell phone or a tablet, which I don't have, and not a laptop with a camera which I do have. If they can't identify me, then they are incompetent. I have an unusual last name, have lived at the same place for more than 20 years, have good credit, and have been with the same bank for more than 20 years. I have never had any problem applying for a credit card at any other bank. Since I couldn't get the card and save the sales tax, I chose another merchant.

PayBoo has saved me hundreds of dollars buying at B&H, but as others have mentioned, you have to make sure you pay your balance within its very short billing cycle. For example, B&H just shipped me a new lens two days ago and when I checked my PayBoo balance online, the balance was due the next day. So I highly recommend that you sign up for online payments and that you check the box that alerts you by text when your balance is due. (I have them alert me seven days before payment is due.) I would not rely on sending your payments by mail.

You must have made the purchase two days before the statement date. PayBoo only bills once a month just like any other credit card.

I have used the Pay Boo card several times. If there were a catch, it would be getting a customer to run up a Bill he could not pay off each month and they would charge a person interest like any other credit card. I like it and pay off monthly and save the tax.

My bad...I didn't realize B&H has two different cards.....BOTH I guess are through Synchrony. I have the 6/12 month no interest financing card and after looking, it doesn't have a fancy name like Payboo.

The card is issued by Synchrony Bank (same as Sams Club cards). Easy to reach but absolutely no automation and waiting for endless menus on their phone system ... well just say it is irritating. Still saves big money on purchases and shipping.

I remember your thread on that issue. What an unbelievable mess! My husband got a PayBoo card a month or so after I received mine. A couple of months after he received his card, a letter from Synchrony Bank arrived cancelling his card. There was no coherent reason for the cancellation given. Hubby hadn't even used the card yet when he received the letter from Synchrony. He contacted Synchrony Bank to ask for the specifics, but was never able to get an answer OR have the card re-activated. We just use my card at B&H.

Synchrony Bank issues credit to people with lower credit ratings than the big banks and thus charges more interest but also has to write more off. I'm sure the program is initiated to gain more customers who will use it in places other than B&H. However, aside from getting tax credit at B&H, there aren't any other rewards (like cash back) that other cards normally have. I like mine. I got instant approval, pay it off before interest hits and have saved considerably with it. It's also induced me to spend more at B&H vs competitors.

I got the PayBoo card when I decided to spring for my D850 and subsequent purchases. The savings that accrue to me by having B&H pay the sales tax instead of me paying it have been substantial. I keep mine in my drawer and only use it for B&H purchases and I always look to B&H first in view of the additional savings.
