My studio is a total loss
Lord, what a nightmare. I am so sorry to read this. I see some good suggestions being posted, and I wish you the best in recovering from this.
I would check to see if I qualify for any of the Covid relief grant or loan programs and also whether the Biden decision to declare TX a major disaster frees up and disaster loan programs.

Please don't lose heart. You're OK. You have your life and skills. Something may arise that will totally surprise you. In situations such as these life often takes a new direction. What would you REALLY like to do with your life?
I want to thank everyone for the kind words of encouragement. I was sitting here feeling down and discourage. Now I feel blessed, you took the time to reach out to me and encouraged me with your kind words. I'm going to try and get help from FEMA so I can rebuild my studio and continue what I worked so hard for. I pray ๐ it doesn't take too long for help because it's just my wife and me and with no income coming in it kind of worries me. Hopefully, they help quickly and I can buy a camera and some gear and start working in the field during the day and work on the studio at night. With God walking with me and guiding the way and with kind and caring people like each of you I will make it.
Thank you very much for being there and for uplifting me tonight I really needed it ๐

You might qualify for unemployment benefits under the stimulus bill. I think they were letting self emoloyed people collect under the first stimulus bill. That's due to expire in March, but they're going to vote on the new bill this weekend.
Jay,
I am SO sorry to hear of your incredible loss! I cannot imagine how you must feel!
I know words can't take away your loss, however as fellow hedgehogger, please know you will have my prayer support; for strength, encouragement, finances, wisdom, discernment, and anything else God leads me to pray for you.
Prayers and best wishes for a successful outcome,
PhotoNat
Jay,
Please also let your wife know I will be praying all the same for her as well, also Abundant blessings in every way for both of you!
Remember, He is our Jehovah Jirah, our Provider! He will NEVER leave us or forsake us!
Jay, all I can do is be echo what has been said. It sucks, plain and simple. I am very sorry for the loss of your studio, your equipment, and your business. Again, it sucks.

Where do we send the crying towels?
Is that really necessary? It is rather heartless?

There are some very caring people in this world and it is good to talk to get things off our minds. I know that words alone don't help, but you have been given some good information and I hope that you will be successful with your claim. Please let us know how you get on.
I pray for you and your wife that it will all come right in the end.
I am really sorry to hear about that, my friend. People have made some worthwhile suggestions, and I wish you the best of luck going forward with them.

I donโt know where you should send them, but I can tell you where to stick them!

Probably 25 years ago the pipe in my former office burst. The landlords insurance paid the claim. Carpet extraction, books, supplies. Mine was mostly water flow and not water spray. Commercial landlord coverage is apparently different than residential landlord coverage, which I am familiar with. Obviously the drywall, ceiling tiles, trim and all parts that are comprised of and attached to the real estate are covered by the landlords hazard insurance. Your personal property may likely not be but if you had closed I surmise you took the high dollar items out of there. Hopefully govt emergency/disaster will step in. Keep up the good fight.

Like Properframe, we suffered water damage due to ice machine break on floor above us. Major damage over a weekend from such a small water line. The building covered all damage. Just south of you here in Athens TX, retired banker, let me know if I can help.

Hi, everyone I just wanted to share. I live in TX right outside of Dallas. Last week do to cold weather and electricity going out for 37 hours straight a water pipe busted in my ceiling. I didn't find out until 2 am that morning when the Fire Department called me.
When I got there we opened the door and water started gushing out the door. The busted pipe was spraying water everywhere. I lost everything, I had insurance but when covid 19 hit I was told to close my business. After four months I was allowed to reopen.
I wasn't getting any customers due to the six feet distance apart from one another and having to wear a mask. All my clients canceled their appointments. I completely understand because who wants to have a picture taken wearing a mask. So with no income coming in I had to do something and fast if not I was going to lose everything including my home so I had to make some hard decisions and one was canceling the insurance on the studio, now with everything ruined, I don't know what to do.
Thank you for listening to me : )

I am so sorry to read this. I am a newbie, but a happy one who owned a beginnerโs Nikon DSLR and a beloved Pentax KX from years ago.
In August of 2020 I lost my house and virtually everything I owned in a house fire. Needless to say this included my cameras and lenses. My cat and I escaped without a scratch and all I can say is thank goodness I was dressed and have neighbors who helped save our lives.
I tell you this to offer condolences and support, albeit by a stranger, and one who did not suffer nearly the photographically related losses that you did.
It is good that you are safe.
Be well and hang in there.
