Probably 25 years ago the pipe in my former office burst. The landlords insurance paid the claim. Carpet extraction, books, supplies. Mine was mostly water flow and not water spray. Commercial landlord coverage is apparently different than residential landlord coverage, which I am familiar with. Obviously the drywall, ceiling tiles, trim and all parts that are comprised of and attached to the real estate are covered by the landlords hazard insurance. Your personal property may likely not be but if you had closed I surmise you took the high dollar items out of there. Hopefully govt emergency/disaster will step in. Keep up the good fight.

Contact your local Small Business Development Center, usually associated with a college. They are an arm of the SBA and have free assistance and many resources. Find yours at SBDCnet.org

Maybe you can apply for a grant from fema or the stimulus bill.

Second that motion. That is what FEMA is for. See if you can contact your local city council to ask for ideas.

Speaking of personal property - if you had closed your business then your homeowners insurance may cover those losses.

I want to agree whole heartily with Arizona Art about PPP 2 and EIDL. I have a PPP1 and am now applying for a PPP 2 and EIDL. Also, Texas and FEMA may have grants (not to be repaid) The PPP 2 is probably able to be "forgiven" and EIDL has very low interest. Ari Art's idea about SCORE is just the Bees Knees. They can really assist with the mountain of paperwork, have great ideas and are "been there-done that" type of guys. The PPP 2 is RIGHT NOW for businesses with less than 20 people. Strongly suggest you apply -- and the app is easy and simple.
Whenever things look dark and glum I rely on a man -- that when the greatest army in history -- one that had just completely taken over Europe and was only about 30 miles away said "Success is not final, failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts." And "Fear is a reaction, courage is a decision." And he has many other wonderful things to say. You will make it through this like you've made it through tough times before. Accept help and believe.

So sorry to hear about your loss, both of business and your facility. I live in NE Dallas and also had water issues, but mine were less severe. Pipes under my kitchen sink sprung leaks and I had a first floor flood before the water got shut off. Most of that mess has been cleared up and my pipes are being fixed. (I don't have home insurance, either.)

I wonder if members of this great photography forum have enough gear laying around that we could get him going again. I'm guessing most of us have some gear we could donate. I'm not sure what he was shooting but am guessing that he would use whatever he received. What do people think?

Promlem is most of us don’t read all the post in the thread. When I am interested, as in this one, I do. I don’t have all that much hear and none of it commercial grade. Lighting equipment is a couple flash units and a couple small umbrellas. I just hope he get help from any and all sources.

That is so sad and very depressing, I'm sure.

Not sure how it works in TX, but in California, you can file a claim with the utility company for your losses due to a power outage. Since the burst pipe was due to freezing, which was a result of the power outage, I would think the utility company would be liable.

Best of luck.

Also recommend that you contact your local SCORE group at https://dallas.score.org/. SCORE mentors are available to assist you.

Sorry my dear but you didn’t loss everything. You are still healthy and still have a roof over your head. Yes it’s an ugly situation but it’s not the end. I was in the hurricane eye, plowed away roof, no power......the pandemic is changing life. I don’t know if my job survives the next some months, but some other Opportunity showed already....

Doesn't the government have a program to help businesses like yours to deal with covid related business losses and what about Biden's decision to declare Texas a major disaster? Doesn't that open up the opportunity to get disaster relief loans?
