I agree with Sidwalkastronomy. However, I'll add this the mix. What if one of those batteries goes south and damages your camera. If it's an OEM battery there's no argument about the possible repair bill. If it's an after market battery, the company may not even want to repair it.

I'm shooting with a Canon RP which I love but battery life is very poor compared to the 7D I was using before. This means I need to have a few extra batteries in my bag but Canon batteries are expensive. You get what you pay for though and the cheap aftermarket batteries I've bought don't have the capacity and they don't live long. Can anyone recommend an aftermarket brand that matches the quality of the Canon batteries? They obviously wouldn't be the cheapest batteries out there but they're bound to be less money than the Canons.
Thanks

Canon, Nikon, et al make cameras and lenses, not batteries. I don't know who makes their batteries for them, but it's likely your aftermarket batteries are made by the company that supplies your camera manufacturer. Actually, there are only a few battery manufacturers. This is a category where almost everything is private labelled.

Watson. Have used them for years with a Canon. Have had no problems.

Canon, Nikon et al make cameras and lenses, not batteries. They get their private labelled batteries from a battery manufacturer. There are not many battery manufacturers, so I would guess that many brands of aftermarket batteries are also made by the same few companies.

I just purchased a Manfrotto battery for my Canon 80D. It’s was $30 less expensive. Manfrotto just got into the battery business. The company has its good name to live up to. Will see

Many of us will tell you how great a non OEM battery 'They have is" fo it's up tp to you.
As I see it we spend thousands on equipment and years trying to be better. To me cutting corners for $20.00 or $40.00 is silly. Some of us are willing to be silly enough to buy a more expensive battery even if it's only to feel conferrable.

I just bought some Rav Power batteries which are highly rated but using the first one gave me about half the shots I get from a Sony battery. However, the instructions say to completely charge and discharge it at least three times to increase the power. I haven't done that yet.

How many people buy non branded gasoline for their cars? It's overruns from the major gas companies that's sold unbranded from the refineries. I have never had a problem with a non oem battery in 15 years. Wasabi, Watson, and Kastar come to mind. Great deals on Amazon with intelligent chargers. And yes they're made in China just like the rest are.

Another vote for Wasabi. Been using them since I got my K3 and one out of 4 is beginning to show the end of life signals (shorter time to deplete) so I just got two more. No difference in performance from original Pentax battery.
Charger works in car, so the new one will stay there!

My thoughts exactly. Use OEM batteries. The reason they don't last as long as they did in your 7D (talking to the OP now) is because mirrorless cameras eat batteries because the LCD is on most of the time and the viewfinder uses a lot of power too compared to a DSLR. I could get 1000 pics and my battery would last all day with my 7D and 7D II. You'd be lucky to get 200 or 2 hrs with a mirrorless.

A mirrorless camera will do that especially if the viewfinder and screen are on. I ditched Canon long ago but there are probably some settings in the menu that will also help you save on battery life. I have had excellent performance out of Ravpower batteries in my Sony (a 2 pack with a dual charger were under $50.00 on Amazon a year ago)

In the distant past I've used non-OEM Batteries but had bad luck with some. From then on I went with OEM batteries and accessories. For me it wasn't worth the few dollars I save initially compared to buying the OEM brand to start with. I forgot where I bought mine.
Check Walmart, I found the battery for $49.99 there.
