I have always used Wasabi batteries and find them to be as good if not better than the Canon OEM batteries. There are those who will tell you to only buy OEM but really they have no experience using the generic equivalents. The reason your RP goes through batteries so quickly is because your EVF is consuming energy that your DSLR didn't.

Right you are. I have had Canon batteries go bad in three months. Fortunately B&H replaced them but it is a PIA. Did anyone ever go to the Canon battery plant? I don't think so. So just where do those batteries come from? Would you want to bet Wasabi and other brands get their batteries from the same place?
I have after market batteries that are four years old and still working, never had a battery leak either. I can but a lot of inexpensive aftermarket batteries for the price of a single OEM.

I was mistaken thinking the hinge for an articulating LCD screen causes resistance. My misconception was clarified by “longshadow”. I recalled that the wire inside the hinge causes Electric resistance.

Thank you.

I think it is a matter of personal preference.
While I use “Canon” batteries I will use Canon, Sigma, Tamron or Rokinon lenses.

Right you are. I have had Canon batteries go bad ... (show quote)

The longevity and reliability is based on quality control.
The more control, the better the quality, and higher expense.
Little quality control/testing results in a less expensive product, which may or may not last as long as a product that is scrutinized (thorough testing before shipping).
For example- Burned in hard drives, like WD Gold, last longer than a "regular (cheaper)" drives because all the lesser quality drives have been weeded out (died during burn-in). The ones that survive the process will last much longer.
If the batteries are put through a rigorous testing process before shipping, the ones that pass will last longer.
This is opposed to "build and ship". Build and ship is a much cheaper process that allows the manufacturer to charge a lower price. However, there may be a few? "infantile (early life) failures" in what is shipped because of this method.

I worked in Supplier Quality (primarily ICs and semiconductors) for over 25 years. I've seen a lot of different product quality.

My guess is that Canon has a contractor manufacture the batteries and put them in a "Canon case".
Point of fact: Years ago I knew a guy that worked for the company that made electronic ignition modules for cars. The same module went into different cases, ie. Ford cases... I bought my replacement module at Walmart. Worked fine, lasted a long time. (The Ford module was $150, Walmart was $25.)

Then there are manufacturers that have absolutely NO quality control. I try not to buy from them if known.
Buy what you feel comfortable with.

I've had good luck with 3rd party stuff, but I use Canon batteries, buy 2 of them and you'll be good to go

Not a Canon shooter, but did a large amount of research. I found 1 company to isolate & try....That was over a year ago & they have yet to disappoint. I bought a pair of Hannel batteries via B&H. The charging unit show what percentage of battery needs to be charged. MaH is more than offered by Nikon, batteries are also available for Canon

OEM batteries are actually a rip-off. They sell you the camera but then rip you off on the batteries. It's like buying a printer and paying through the nose for ink cartridges. I use after market batteries and have had no problem with them. You can find some pretty good deals by searching on line.

I am with Sidewalk so much money invested in equipment why go cheap on the gasoline I received a free extra battery with my purchase of a Sony a7r4 I used it once and when I used it the camera hesitated right in the middle of a flight shot and a message came up in the viewer that said continued use of this battery could damage camera do you want to proceed what does that tell you ... the battery is gone from my bag so much for free stuff

That is a very firm statement to make. Are you saying that 3rd party batteries perform just as well as OEM batteries ONLY if you do not have the money to spend (question mark)

I notice a difference between the Canon EOS battery and the Canon R battery. The latter lasts longer on the R systems. Expensive- yes. But then so is photography.
