infocus: I really like what you did with that photo.... how did you put the bokeh in the background? That really makes a difference. Nice job!

Just because we live in the US doesn't mean we don't follow La Liga

you miss understood me. I was praising Ken Rockwell, I find his information extremely helpful. If I want information he is the first person I go to. I suppose its a matter of British sense of humor vs US. There is a difference and not always understood from both points of view. Now I expect to get a reaction from those who do not like his manner of earning a living. His comments are honest, he is an obviously well educated man & very knowledgeable about photography. Hence my choice of cameras, please try to read a little deeper my friend. D40 have you read his comments D300 ditto D700 ditto. That's the reason I have all three, now maybe you understand me & my contribution to the photo world cannot possibly be known by you. Ken does know everything, all you newbies just try him.

Ah, my apologies. There are a number of UHH's who criticize him. I have no problem with factual disagreement with his opinions but no interest in criticism by folks who haven't offered what he has.

I like most of his stuff.

Hi, thank you for the apology, graciously accepted. Just a misunderstanding of the English wit. I will know better in the future. We speak the same language but often we don't understand, for me I cannot laugh at an American comedian for some of the jokes, I just don't see the funny side, yet the audience are rolling about the floor in hysterics.
Thanks again, My regards to Ken.

Harry.

Canon fire, thanks for the feedback. I understand what you are saying. It is one of the reasons I wanted to try a DSLR. I have a tremendous way to go but feel at least this part of the problem has improved somewhat. This photo may have been taken with a point and shoot, I'm not sure, I'll ask my husband if he remembers. Thanks again for your input. Every bit of advice is most helpful!

Wow!! I want to do a quick thank you to all if you that addressed the question I posted being can the "photo shopped" look be helped. You all went above board with your suggestions and efforts. I'm on my phone at the moment so can't look closely at the full size of your efforts but I will as soon as I return home and will comment and thank each of you individually at that time. I just didn't want you to think I didn't appreciate your efforts!

To those who took the question in a direction assuming I was not happy to have this picture, or that I should just be grateful for what we had and not ask for ways to improve the picture I say thank you for taking the time to comment but please refer to the question being asked. We are VERY proud to have this picture as it was a once in a lifetime opportunity for my husband. I used this picture as an example to help me learn how to fix a problem I have had. This picture was the best example of a "photo shopped" look that I had. It was my belief that this forum was created for us to post pictures that we would like other members to offer methods and techniques showing how to correct issues that the poster is having. I did not realize it was for members to tell posters what they should or should not be happy to have. If that is an unwritten rule to posting on this board I apologize.

Thank you again to those who offer their talents and comments to help a newbie learn.

grammyratzi, you are absolutley correct (but you knew that I hope) this site is about helping people and all the stuff you said. Please do not worry yourself regarding the ones that said you should be happy you got a picture at all etc., We are all here to help not criticise motives. Hope you liked what I did for you but it was very rough. More time better result etc.,

Other than some cropping/framing issues and the red eye, which are both easy to fix-- it may be that what makes it look shopped is the difference in the quality of light for the room and for the two guys. As has been mentioned, this is what happens when you mix ambient light with fill flash

Infocus, no worries! People here have really been supportive. I love the way that there is a wide spectrum of opinons and suggestions for different views and techniques to handle issues when there is a question asked. I love the support and encouragement given when a photo is posted just for fun. I LOVE the folks that viewed my Push Me Pull You post and sent comments for the photo that was taken by my 9 yr old daughter. Every one of them were soooo supportive and encouraging that they helped create a monster! LOL She still checks every day to see if there are more comments.

This is a place I can see myself spending a lot more time enjoying everyones help and posts.

LoneRangeFinder,

You are definitely right. Sometimes a simple fix will make a huge difference in how a photo can be viewed. Thank you for offering your suggestions!

This photograph would look much better by simply cropping below the third button on the blue shirt. It is always a bad mistake to cut through legs like this.

Hi susyseek, sorry i took two days to reply. Some how I missed your question. Any way, thank you for your nice comment. The bokeh is applied with a programme called (strangley enough) Alien skin Bokeh. Great programme and very easy to use.

I think she was referring to the comment, "Outside of posting it on UHH, maybe only a dozen people on the planet might ever see it."

It's sad but sometimes you have to have thick skin to post on UHH. Suggestions on improving technique or a photo seems to be an opening to comment on everything other than your original question. I loved your question and thankful you posted. It was an interesting question and I learned from some of the responses. Keep asking!
