Lots of raptors out here, virtually no traffic, and plenty of places to pull off the road. I look for them in places they have been before, but this was certainly a stroke of luck. Likely never again!

Great captures in spite of having the manual focus.

Many thanks! I love autofocus (most of the time) but thinking about it, have used Manual nearly 5X as long!

Thank you, Sylvia - definitely an amazing experience. I have seen photos on UHH with a tree literally filled with eagles, but I think those are from the West Coast or Alaska. This is the most I've seen here. Went to the same spot this morning, nothing. It stays on the list, though!

Eagles and Montana - an unbeatable combination! You are certainly quick on the draw - nice series...

I was out looking for some raptors, and about ready to head home since clouds had rolled in and I lost the good light. As I was about to turn around, I spotted an eagle in a tree. Waste not, want not, I stopped to take the shot, not figuring that I'd get much, both light and distance as issues. About the time my feet hit the pavement, there was an Eagle storm, Eagles flying in every direction, 8? 9? More? I couldn't tell you, but pretty amazing. All but the one in the tree had been roosting on the ground, so they just appeared from nowhere. I had the old ED 600 5.6 on the D7200, so clumsy and manual focus as well. A few stayed long enough for some shots, nothing to boast about, just proof of the story. I will try that spot again!

what a thrill that must have been, quix...they are beautiful, and next time you will be ready for them i'll bet!

Was a hoot. Don't know any way I could have been ready - maybe a bodycam, though there was a considerable distance between me and the the subjects. Just try and hope for another chance. Thanks!
