I live in a small private community on 3,300 acres, so the new Covid protocols...are nothing new for me.
My sister called a few months ago and asked how I was coping.
Coping with what I responded?
So you are truly an "outlier!"
Good luck with the doctor visit. I've heard there is light at the end of the carpal tunnel.
Manglesphoto, COVID-2 is not in a great fog cloud as in a horror movie, not a miasma in the night air. Altho as you suggest some people still believe, "diseases are caused by a miasma (μίασμα, Ancient Greek for "pollution"), a noxious form of "bad air", also known as night-air.
My friend in England says they are in strict lockdown.

Thank you very much
I have tried twice but have yet to see the light
I can’t agree more. Locking oneself in doesn’t make much sense to me when all that’s needed are proper precautions.

Yes, a statistical anomaly. I can check that off my bucket list.

All of the things many of you describe are totally prohibited in the U.K. at the moment. Leaving home for local outdoor exercise once a day is all that is permitted for social or leisure activity.
Recently two people have had fines of £200 each for driving in separate cars five miles to walk in a National park. This is however currently under review, but gives an idea of the difference between the U.K. and USA.
My wife and I have seen no one (mom is 95 and lives alone, so not easy), been no where since Feb, so we follow the rules. Agree no common sense, everyone probably thinks everyone else will or should stay put. With that said, the recent problems in countries like yours, where things appear from here to have handled better, really does make one wonder if all the actions taken will, in the end, have made any real difference other than timing of deaths, etc. Unfortunately, not the kind of repeatable experiment.
Like many of you I had a choice to make last fall.... winter in Florida or lose the condo for future years. We decided to go but now wonder because the attitudes are so so different....at home we walked , restricted ourselves, wore masks. While en route southward all places were fully open in IN, KY, TN, Al. Now in Fl. hardly anyone masks, restaurants are open at capacity, bars are full, attractions are full of people We still wear masks, eat at home or picnic, social distance and avoid crowds. I take pics snd my wife knits. Still waiting for when we can get the vaccine. Not what I like but better than losing our lives.

The problem with the latest vicious mutation in the UK is even the recommended precautions are not working. A woman doctor here who knew exactly what to do passed an asymptomatic infection to her father and killed him. She has no idea how it happened as she exceeded all of the recommended protocols.
With the USA already having the highest percentage of infections and deaths, I just hope this mutated version of the virus does not spread there as it’s doing here.
Desert trails are conveniently close to me. Go off-roading often, just me and my dog, Sequoia. I don't always take camera gear and never a cell phone (I have an HT, hand-held ham radio, for emergencies). Since it has chilled down, desert-wise, we do a lot of roaming on foot since the rattlers are snoozing now. Always a nice "escape"!
I received my first covid vaccine last Thursday. Florida is vaccinating seniors before essential workers and teachers. I don't necessarily agree with this (think teachers should have been a priority), but already feeling a bit of relief. I'm still avoiding stores, other than groceries, still wear a mask and don't go out in crowds. But I have always been out photographing, walking the beach or swimming in the pool. Not sure when I'll feel 100% safe. My second shot will be administered at the beginning of February.
Can't agree with you more! Since the covid started i have spent many hours on my bike this year... 5000 plus... We have a great path with multiple tributaries and I mostly ride in the less traveled area... However we do encounter a number of people... Most are as careful as i am... We tend to move to the outer edges of the trails to protect both of us... As you mentioned in your post... Common sense died many years ago... fortunately many of us Oldies still retain a bit of it... Glad you posted

That is common sense. I take walks and just avoid close contact. I go to stores and take the necessary precautions. I even got real daring over the summer and took the train to B&H in the City lol. And COVID was not the scariest part of that trip.
As a longtime commuter to the City I can attest to your last sentence🥴

Maybe. The incoming administration has announced that it would immediately release your second dose (second doses are currently being held so availability will be assured) and give it to someone else as a first dose ASAP. Politics over science....beyond stupid.
