Look Out Mountain near Chattanooga Tenn. you can see like 3or5 States from. It I was there 55 years ago and it was pretty neat.
Since I'm in Tennessee, I'd recommend going down I65 then I24 and see the Corvette plant and museum in Bowling Green KY, many places in Nashville (Ryman Auditorium, Country Music Hall of Fame, Grand Ol' Opry, Opryland Resort & Convention Center, The Parthenon, several museums), and Chattanooga (Lookout Mountain, Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum).

if you happen to travel south on I-75 through Kentucky, the Red River Gorge Geological Area is not too far from Lexington, KY, and is a fantastic area of cliffs and natural bridges. A great place for some day hikes and photography; Google Red River Gorge, KY. for some examples. Also some horse farms around Lexington for photography. I-75 will also take you by Great Smokey Mountains NP on your way south.

40? Then I guess there are no more pictures left...
Man! I can't imagine having so much fun! You can go anywhere! Stop anywhere! And no clock. Visiting CA years back, San Diego to SF, any time I saw an interesting name on a sign, I went. All film then. Some of the best stuff of my life! Green with envy
If you are traveling south on I-75, both of these stops are on your route.
-The Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga is home to 10,000 animals and an IMAX theater.
-The Georgia Aquarium is home to hundreds of species and thousands of animals across its seven major galleries, all of which reside in more than 10 million gallons of fresh and saltwater.
The Ozark Scenic Rivers. However, it is usually busy during the normal school vacation days.

I was going to suggest the Colorado Mtns....
It’s a little out of your way, but the US Rocket and Space Center in Huntsville, AL is worth a visit.
Good idea. Note that some stretches of the Interstate run beside roads and highways that existed before the Interstate system. They function as frontage roads through a local area. You seem to be using them. They present plenty of photo opportunities.

If I were taking that trip, I'd stay off of the interstates as much as possible. I did that for my two road trips to California; I was able to take photos other people didn't; I saw small towns that were photogenic. I used the interstates to get through large cities, but got off of them as soon as possible.

Google Maps says the most direct route is down I-65 past Lafayette, through Indianapolis and Louisville, by Bowling Green and through Nashville, then I-24 through Chattanooga, then I-75 through Atlanta, by Macon, by Gainsville and Ocala to Orlando. If Orlando is anywhere near your destination in Florida; Google sort of took that to mean "Florida."
Of course, there are a nearly infinite number of alternative routes, like through Arizona or Alaska if you want to take the states alphabetically but skip Alabama because it is, after all, out of the way. However, they aren't very direct, even if you can take as long as you want. I love the Blue Ridge Parkway, and if you come that far out of your way, be sure to stop in Asheville, and while you're there there's the Biltmore if it's open, but none of that is on a very direct route (if Google Maps has any accuracy at all).
If I were taking this trip, and could take as much time as I wanted, I'd go to AAA and get a copy of their books for the states along the way I chose to take. I've always found them remarkably useful, particularly if you peruse them before leaving, so you can do extra research on the ideas you get from them.
Heres wishing you one helluva great time.

You could check out Shenandoah NP and take the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Exactly! Drive from Shenandoah NP to Great Smokey Mountains NP along Blue Ridge Hwy. Excellent views, enjoyable ride.

I have never been to Chicago. We could use a tour. I have been to Terre Haut, Indianapolis. How about Washington, DC?
There is some nice opportunities in ocean city, Maryland, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Carolinas, Georgia. Take lots of memory cards and plenty of batteries. Cut down on the gear, less to pack and less to shlep around.
I had to laugh at this one! Chicago to Florida and stop in Az on the way. I needed this. :>)
In Chattanooga, TN there are the caves leading to Ruby Falls. There is an incline you can ride (like a cable car/shuttle taking you up and down hill). There is a wonderful Civil War Memorial from which you can see 5 states. Good street photography in the city plaza near the 2 multistory aquariums (1 fresh water, 1 salt water).
