Do you like caverns? Luray Caverns, if it's open.

Do you like buildings/architecture? The Biltmore Estate, if it's open.

There are some good outdoor places in WV. Someone mentioned little towns. There are historical town IS Cass. It was a logging town and now is part of a state park. There are many scienic drives through the mountains. Check for weather reports because snow impacts many of them. Some ideas. Just a small portion. https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/west-virginia/woolly-adelgid-wv/

If you're into history - and the civil war period - there are many sites on the east coast - battlefields, bunkers, forts, etc...
The Arch at St Louis
Branson MO is photogenic -
Memphis & Beale Street -
Nashville & the Grand Ole Opry -
Atlanta is loaded with historical buildings -
Many distilleries along the way -
Wineries are always interesting -
Horse racing tracks / ranches -

And a quick search online produced these:
Fun road trip stops from Chicago to Florida
The Ultimate Road Trip Itinerary from Chicago to Florida
What to See on a Drive From Illinois to Florida
Drive from Chicago to FL - attractions along the way?

Have a safe trip...

If you go through the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia I suggest visiting the Green Valley Book Fair . It is in heart of the Shenandoah Valley. https://gobookfair.com/

The Dupont National Forest in North Carolina is worth driving out of the way to see. It's the waterfall capitol of the South. Many great locations to photograph amazing waterfalls and scenery.
