At top of this page and most other pages you can see about a dozen options. One option is private messages. But the easy way to begin is to click on my ID and a page will open up showing “Send Private Message” in plain sight when you scroll down a bit.

Also helpful, I will PM you right now, and the option at the top of the page will be highlighted in yellow, indicating a private message is waiting for you.

One of Nikon's 24-105 variants is a good match for this camera.

The 24-105 is a good all around lens...the sigma version would be my choice.

Okay, Mr. UserID. I've read it twice and no matter how much I slow down, I read Nikon D700. What do you want me to see?

Reread the advice by no12mo. There was no reason to be critiquing it. It was right on the money.

He is not recommending a D7000 kit lens for use on a D700.

He plainly says his 18-105 D7000 kit lens has been a perfect choice, and therefore he recommends buying its mathematical equivalent for a D700.

It’s plainly there if you slow down.

If it ain’t fix don’t broke it. Use a Sony lens on a Sony camera and life is good. Switching from Sony to Nikon would be swimming against the tide.

If you are getting results then don’t change anything.

Goes without saying that if you can’t get certain different results that you need, then you must change something.

Change is not always easy ... or cheap. Therefor, change is not a birthright.

You are nonsensical.

I knew that - I was merely suggesting the equivalent to my kit lens that came with my 7000 would be my suggestion for his camera.

As far as native nikon lenses go, the 24-120 f 4 is versatile and quite good (avoid the non f4 versions like the plague though). It's major drawback for me is its size, fairly large and as heavy as the d700 body. These can be found used for around $450. A smaller choice might be the older 28-105 which works well but has significant vignetting right at 28. They go for about $125.

Nikon doesn't make a 24-105. The current 24-120 F4 with VR is vastly superior to the older F3.5-5.6.
