Great shot. I have never been to Washington DC to visit that memorial; I know I will find the names of several of my high school classmates on it. There is a memorial in Marseilles, IL; that memorial is in honor of those fallen heroes during the Gulf Wars. I visit it regularly. What I would like to visit is the memorial for the fallen heroes of the Normandy Invasion because my dad was part of that moment in history.

I have been to The American Cemetary in Normandy. It is very somber. When it was getting close to closing time, they sounded taps. We stoped and faced the flag. A lot of people did not. They did not know the meaning. Then a WW2 B52 flew over the cemetery it was unreal.
If ever you go you should first visit the Musee Museum at Omaha Beach. It brings it all together.

With all due respect the Boeing B52 was designed in 1948 and first flew in 1952. It was delivered to the military in 1955. Not a WW2 aircraft.

I completely agree with you about the cemetery. My wife and I visited that cemetery years ago. Seeing the graves of American men who died in battle was a heartbreaking sight. Every military cemetery I have ever visited has given me the combined feelings of extreme pride for America’s military along with the sadness that these men and women gave everything for us.

Maybe B17, B25, B26, I have no idea. Not a big thing anyway. Who knows what he meant? I was correcting to be informative only.

Thanks, I can't count how many times I have reversed numbers. My uncle Bill, who I never met, was a bombardier on a B17 and was shot down over the Bay of Biscay 1944.

I do the very same thing. We all do or at least, if we live long enough, we WILL.

Living near in the DC area I love shooting the monuments. I have always struggled with the Vietnam Memorial. Until one winter day, I was up before dawn and went to the mall. After some shots at the Lincoln memorial, I went by the Vietnam Memorial and was walking toward the Washington monument and had a flash of inspiration. So I tucked up close to the wall and took this shot. This was before I learned about RAW files and post processing so I really worked to get the details down. Must have taken 30 shots to get this one.
