Living near in the DC area I love shooting the monuments. I have always struggled with the Vietnam Memorial. Until one winter day, I was up before dawn and went to the mall. After some shots at the Lincoln memorial, I went by the Vietnam Memorial and was walking toward the Washington monument and had a flash of inspiration. So I tucked up close to the wall and took this shot. This was before I learned about RAW files and post processing so I really worked to get the details down. Must have taken 30 shots to get this one.

Great shot it deserves nothing but the best. When I was working I had been to DC about ten time on business. Every time I tried to get close to the memorial. I could see it. Just couldn't cross the street. The last time about 3 years ago this "old guy" is coming towards me and he changes his direction, walks up to me and hugs me. We stood there both of us hugging each other and crying, we never said a word then off he goes and so do I.

I commend you on a beautiful photograph of The Wall. I have always wanted to see it but have not had a chance yet. At 74 I probably need to get a move on now. As another poster mentioned I don't know if I could/would want to get close to it. The USMC memorial would probably have the same affect on me. Maybe this Spring will be a good to go find out.

Thank you,

Dennis
