You’ll have to get used to some big ole files!

That is what I'm reading about now. I shoot mainly wildlife, so I do crop quite a bit. Gary

You can crop a lot. Obviously I made a mistake in my original post. The 850 has 45 mp not the 24 I said. Sorry.

Yesterday my refurbished D810 arrived from B&H. It only had 176 shutter clicks on it and is pristine. Bad weather today so no going out for photos but I have been setting up the menu and getting used to the controls as they are different than the D750.

Best wishes with your new camera. I know I will enjoy mine.

Dodie

Thanks Dodie. I hope you have a blast with your new camera. I read a bit about the 810. I couldn't find a bad review. Gary

Nikon just came out with a new model with similar specs and price as the 850. ....

Can you provide a link? Have only seen rumors.
I'm curious, though seriously, I'd be happy with the 850.
The only thing I'd want is an even lower price.

No need to apologize. I knew what you meant and you had the specs down! Gary

That was lucky!
Hope you have the good lenses to use with it.

I have read in many posts that older lenses won’t give as good results as newer ones on the 850. I’m not trying to start any arguments, just giving my observations. For football I use a Nikon 400 f2.8
Lens that was purchased at least 15 years ago and works perfectly with the 850 as does my older 80-200 and 16-35. Again not trying to start any arguments, just saying what works for me.

The Z line is mirrorless.
Different camera model line.
I've had my eye on price drops for the Z6 now that the version II is out.

And that's what's important.
I shoot real subjects, hardly ever on a tripod and never shoot test targets.
It's good to know where things might be improved though.

I have had the D850 for several months. I think you will be very happy with it. The low light capability is very good. I have pushed it to the limit a few times with good results. The 24 mp gives you a lot of room for cropping without degrading the quality. It handles very well and the controls and very accessible.
It compares favorably with the D5 in image quality. The frame rate is not quite as fast, but the exposure and focus systems are in a par with the D5

I have shot many different assignments in many different lighting situations and have always gotten very good results.
The attached photo was shot with the D850 with a 400 f2.8 lens from one end zone of a TD at the other goal line and was very heavily cropped.

I think the sensor is more like 45 mp, not 24.

When the D850 first came out it was discussed that some older lenses couldn't take advantage of the 45mp sensor. Nikon even published a list of what lenses were recommended for this camera. So it seemed that newer lenses would be better, but older ones would work as well as they ever did. My old lenses from the film days still work for me.

Just wanted everyone to know Adorama and B and H just knocked $500.00 off of the Nikon D850. I've been using a D7100 for quite a while and have been looking to upgrade. I know the D850 isn't the latest model but the reviews are stellar. I just pulled the trigger. It's on back order but it'll give me time to read up on it. Gary

I've had a D850 since the initial release, and continue to be surprised at what it can do. Look into focus stacking and the built-in intervalometer.

Great find. Now, if they would just knock that much off the D500, I would be more than satisfied.

The D500 has been discounted for a while now. It was around $2000 at first. It's now $1500. I purchased my first one at the $2000 price and my second one at the $1500 price. It will not drop to $1000.
