The 20 fps is for electronic shutter. Electronic shutter is not good for moving objects. The 14 fps of the Nikon is for mechanical shutter.

Thanks for making that clear. I’ve heard that about electronic shutters, too.

At 9fps, my D3 in 2008 wasn't so different from the Z7 II 10fps.

I see that they didn't change the flash sync speed from 1/200 either. This caused problems with macro shooting with the SB800 triggering R200s. Lots of moving insect shots were not so sharp. I didn't notice such problems with with D3 or D4 though the difference was only being 1/250. Higher speeds won't sync trigger the R200s.

Was that because you were exposing for ambient light as well?

You do need mechanical shutter with fast moving objects since you will get rolling shutter effects otherwise. And with electronic shutter you can get serious banding depending on the shutter speed and illumination type.

I am in the camp that believes the II versions look like a significant improvement. With the dual proceesors there are some immediate benefits, but the possibilities for important firmware updates should also be significant.

Of course there must be some differences but as a glance I see no differences with the Z6 and Z7. The price is lower than the Z6 and Z7 introduction prices.

Take another glance - dual card slots, true vertical grip, dual EX6 processors, better low light AF, better video performance, faster fps, larger buffer, so there a few significant improvements, BUT these are what they should have been 2 years ago. Some video aficionados bemoan the lack of a full swivel screen. I think they were able to keep the intro price lower due to tooling costs captured with the first models. I am still waiting for the Z version of the D500 in every way or better just Z version mirrorless. The Z9 is supposed to be a beast camera coming out later. To me the Z5 is just not worth it unless price lowered or FTZ adapter thrown in.

Well...I see Nikon is still doing things in drips and drabs...their old pattern.
The 'improvements' should have been in the very first release. No one else has a problem with 2 card slots and a vertical grip.
The sensor hasn't changed after 2 years. The EVF is ...terrible by todays standards. Nope, not going to upgrade that either. Wasn't the big argument for resisting mirrorless the superior optical viewfinder of the dslr? Now all of a sudden...it's not an issue. Worse...a low grade EVF is just ducky. Makes zero sense.

Canon has done their mirrorless with aplomb.
Nikon...has not.

If you own a good Nikon dslr...stay put.

I don't understand. Why would you need 20 fps for a non-moving object? For that matter, more than 1 fps? What's the advantage and how would you use 20 fps?

Same old sensor and slow fps.

So, you consider 14 fps slow?

The true vertical grip and dual slots are the reasons I am swapping my Z6 for the Z6II. While shooting HS sports, my hand would often cramp while holding the camera vertical (battery grip does not have shutter release, so it offers no help). I'm contacting my local camera store today and getting on the list

For all the folks that continue to gripe and won't buy, that's good because that'll be more inventory out there for me. It's ok with me if you don't want one. Just please stop belittling us that do and are having fun, please.

What is it about you and Architect? Are you so insecure in your choice of Canon that you feel the need to constantly bash Nikon? Many found the Canon R to be more lacking than the Z6 and Z7. I doubt you’ve ever even Looked through a Nikon Z EVF. And it’s not just that you bash, it’s that you both use spurious data to bash with. Why did you even read this thread? You have no interest in Nikon, so obviously you came for one reason.

And it’s a great sensor. Just his usual using spurious info to bash Nikon because that’s the only way he can feel good about being stuck with Canon.

Still no GPS and no cable release slot to add that way.

That second shot is a major item for me.
