The camera store where I practice GAS will not carry paper wipes for ecological purposes.

I've used the Zeiss wipes, found out they do dry fast, however for a big glass (600 mm F/4), they still can do the job, smaller lenses, no issue

Zeiss makes a very good one. I got mine at Walmart in the glasses section in the front of the store but most on line camera centers also carry them. These are the only ones I have ever used.

They appear to be the same packaging that Nikon has and I'll bet both brands are from the same manufacturer. I use ones from Nikon just because.

But I have noticed a film left on the filters when I finish the wipe. I have often wondered whether this film will show up on the final image. So after I wipe with the lens cloth, I then use the old tried and true method of warm breath and one of those microfiber cloths. Sometimes coffee breath will perk up the colors and give a little more vibrance to the image.....

OK for a filter, never for a lens surface!

Why? Are the lens coatings different? More easily removed? Ruined? Sensitive?
Obviously one would not want to grind the shirttail into the lens.
Usually done in a pinch, not like it's done four times a day, daily.

Nikon ones are the same price and are probably from the same manufacturer. But after cleaning my filters with these, I have noticed a purplish film smear left on the filter glass. Wonder if this affects the images?

Bunch of snoots aren't they? Do they have paper towels in the bathroom?

I don’t stress over dust on my lenses. I brush it off once in a while and if it’s really dirty I use a fine spray of half water, half isopropyl alcohol and Kleenex, then dry with one of those eyeglass cloth wipes. I’ve seen beautiful bird shots through window glass. Just sayin'.

Probably, in some minuscule aspect. Most likely not noticeable by anyone.
(But the lens is not perfectly clean... )
I wonder if anyone uses a magnifying glass to make sure they got everything off of the lens.

Yeah, maybe the smear doesn't affect it, but it does bother me.. But next time, I think I'll do a before and after smear test shot...

Agreed, I don't care for smears either.
It would be interesting to see if the difference is actually discernible.

I have bought boxes of Nikon wipes for a long time.
They are good but get dryer the boxes are big and reasonable on Amazon.
I wipe my Sony camera's with and respectful of my years with Nikon.
Their batteries still work on my LED etc. And amazing company.

I'm looking for recommendations of safe, effective pre-moistened wipes for dust and fingerprints on camera lenses and lcd screens. There are many products for sale on Amazon, including Nikon and Zeiss products, but some buyers complain that these products are too dry. Maybe they are not supposed to be very wet.

I use Hufa wipes from B&H.
No residue, but costs more.

Smear or a smattering?
