And the "04" part stands for April (They're rolling it out slowly). The development team is just releasing the betas of 2009 (2020-Sept).

Couldn't resist this. A wee lesson on speed. Windows 2004 ?
Google would have told you within 2 seconds whereas waiting for UHH may take a few hours.
Plus the similarity between all the previous Windows upgrades like 1904, 1909 etc with 2004 being a natural progression from that. Just saying since I have noticed that UHHers do tend to have a habit of not using google first.
I have had a session of a laptop not updating in the past (a Dell). It took about 4 days of loading and subsequently reloading progressively earlier versions of updates until I found one that would let me boot the laptop again. Next step was to update all drivers on that version from Dell plus all Windows updates except the main version. Then I updated to a mid main version and all subsequent Windows updates before finally installing the current (at that time) main version. And why did all this happen. Actually two reasons. It wouldn't have happened if I had updated the drivers from Dell first. And it wouldn't have happened if Dell had tested the latest version and provided the relevant drivers to Microsoft to add to the newer version in a timely manner. Why did this happen ? I suspect that Dell now has too many models and doing the testing (on beta Windows) and keeping them up-to-date is now too onerous. So what two lessons have we learnt (me anyway) ? Check for newer drivers on any/all models of laptops and PCs before dumping on the latest version of Windows. And avoid Dell if at all possible (although I am picking this can/will happen with any manufacturer).

Some UHHers also tend to use bad subject titles. If you had added Windows 10 to your title it wouldn't have been necessary for anyone to google or ask for clarification!πŸ˜•

Odd that so many of you have so much continuing trouble every time an update is released.
It seems most of the issues are caused by using computers & software, many generations out of date.

My desktop is 2 years old but still current technology. I7-7700 with 32Gbs of Ram, running all current versions of all software.
FIOS is my provider, 500megs up & down.
This latest Win10-2004 upgrade took 14 minutes from beginning to end with absolutely no issues.
I never shut my computers off.

I am not trying to come across in any derogatory way.
It is my desire to point out that many of the issues encountered and the time it takes to resolve them are self inflicted.
Technology forces us to move forward whether we like it or not.

Much like arguing with your wife, Life is much easier when you just submit to the inevitable.

Maybe partly right. However I did say Windows and since probably 90% (?) at least are now using Windows 10 then this isn't quite so relevant. I used it the way I did because the last 10 references to it on the internet etc that I saw also did the same - just used Windows 2004. Some of these also included Microsoft. And Windows 2004 does not include the words Media Center anywhere in it. Just saying. (Got to stop using 'just saying' as it annoys me when I see others using it).

I have tried several times to upgrade fro Windows 8 to Windows 10. Every time is takes from 1 to 2 hours and does not work. I wind up reverting back to Windows 8. Maybe some day I will just do a clean install, it’s just that I have everything installed and working the way I like. It will take days to get it to where my system is now.

I woudn't mind betting you might have some driver/hardware issues with this. And a clean install is probably the only way you will fix it. The issue you raise here is one of the biggest hassles with Windows. I need to reinstall both mine and my wifes Windows installs but the only thing preventing this happening is that it will take at least a week each full time getting both systems back to the way they were. Last time I did mine it was over a month before the last little niggle (that I was prepared to bother with) had been fixed. Some things were never fixed like bothering to reinstall some software (for a variety of reasons) so I just flagged it.
I wish you luck.
