I have just had 4 PCs go through this. Two older laptops and 2 workstations. The laptops took about 3 hours each, 1 WS took about 2 hours and can't remember the other but it was a long time. So plan the upgrade first thing in the morning when you have a whole day ahead NOT at the end of the day. This is one seriously long upgrade. Even longer if you check for other upgrades first and do those.
One of the laptops I did this -
updated antivirus
updated Abobe CC
performed several Windows upgrades
upgraded Macrium Reflect
Windows 2004 upgrade
updated several other minor programs
All up it took 7 hours !!
Then a 40 minute image backup over the network to another PC. Thank God I am retired.

Trying to understand question; Have you been using Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 for the last 16 years?

I just completed the same W10 upgrade, with a few Office upgrades thrown in on an old laptop and a desktop. The desktop took about 45 minutes and the laptop an hour or so. Sounds like you've got some serious problems in there. First time I've seen a Kiwi on here, how are things across the ditch?

There is no question ! This is just a heads up for when you need to spend time upgrading to Win 2004, which is the latest Windows 10 upgrade, that it is not a short process ie don't be thinking you will upgrade first before doing something with that urgent photo in 20 minutes time.

The desktop took about a good hour. It isn't so much a desktop as a high end workstation (although a few years old now). There is nothing problematic on it to my knowledge (its last Win reload was several years ago and my wifes one about 8 years ago). It first took a while to prepare for the upgrade, then a while to download (on fibre), then a while to install, then another chunk of time as Win rebooted itself a few times. All up well over an hour.
I have been on here over a year but obviously maybe we aren't interested in the same subjects. I tend to keep away from the main Photographic section as the same questions keep getting asked. I do enjoy Chit-Chat more.
And things are fine here. Just need to keep the fools under control and healthy. Just planning a 3 week trip around the South Island instead of overseas as there seems to be some problems with airlines flying at the moment. We don't have any sort of Federal system like the Yanks and you guys so have a lot less trouble
getting things done.

I am asking you the question. Have you been using Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 for the last 16 years? I don't understand what you are calling Windows 2004 upgrade.

Fair call. Fortunately we don't have a federal system like the yanks. Ours works, more or less.

I have used XP Media Center Edition ? once for about 10 minutes maybe 15-20 years ago.
I copied this from Microsoft - "When the Windows 10 May 2020 Update is ready for your device, it will be available to download from the Windows Update page in Settings. Choose a time that works best for you to download the update. You'll then need to restart your device and complete the installation. After that, your device will be running Windows 10, version 2004."
If you have a Windows 10 based PC and you haven't had this done yet then never fear, it will be coming to your channel soon.

Maybe my use of the word 'Federal' is incorrect but you guys certainly do have problems where the various States seemingly act out of sync with the main govt like in the US. Victoria would be an example. Wait until Vic has to pay back the CCP debt trap and can't.
Once over there, in the US, I got a prescription from the hospital and called in to the next chemist shop on our trip to fill it only to find we had crossed a State line and they wouldn't accept it. What a system !

I did say "mostly", these are unusual times, to say the least. Fortunately we don't have a PD for every whistlestop town. !8,000 they have.

I guess it was just the title of your post that confused me, Windows 10, Version 2004 cleared my misunderstanding.

You're not the only one confused by the title....

Interesting - mine was updated the end of July - I thought they were finished with the rollout...

Two of my machines were really problematic with this rollout. First one in March (where I had to download the upgrade and treat it as a clean Win 10 install, the second machine flat-***ed refused to upgrade from 1903 to 1909 and then 2004. Ended up cloning my main drive and then going through an upgrade with the 2004 version (which at least kept all of my old stuff in the windows.old directory. I am still culling that so that I can get back all of the space that that directory took up. I think that there are lots of people struggling with this upgrade, so thanks Kiwi, for spreading the news that this may be a longer process to some than might be expected. My other machines took quite a while to update, so the warning is valid.
