2004 is the latest build of win 10

My computers have already done a few revisions to v 2004, none as big as the original but pretty big.

As soon as I had completed the upgrade (5 mins later) and checked for further updates there were two sitting there already.
I have no idea of the size of the 2004 upgrade but it must be quite large. Microsoft doesn't do them all immediately once it is available because their servers would be vastly overloaded. Especially with 2 billion users trying to download simultaneously perhaps a couple of gigabytes each. So MS staggers downloads. Although this was a May release it is now August before mine came up. You can download it yourself and install it when it suits or wait in line until it is your turn.
It took so unusually long especially when it is not running Windows itself and gives no warning that something is still happening that once I even turned the PC off thinking it had gone to lah lah land. Fortunately it came back again okay. You need to be careful how you install it because if you wander off part way through and then come back to a blank screen without knowing just where it is in the procedure you can come to a wrong conclusion - or a correct one unfortunately based on past experience.

I have long done manual updates and checks for same at least weekly in addition to having auto update turned on. When I am doing the "house keeping" on my wife's and son's computers I usually do mine at the same time and I will use settings > updates and security > check for updates to force updates instead of waiting.
Since I do that why do I have "auto update" turned on? For the hopefully rare but real "emergency" and mostly security related updates that don't come out on the schedule.

Two of my machines were really problematic with this rollout. First one in March (where I had to download the upgrade and treat it as a clean Win 10 install, the second machine flat-***ed refused to upgrade from 1903 to 1909 and then 2004. Ended up cloning my main drive and then going through an upgrade with the 2004 version (which at least kept all of my old stuff in the windows.old directory. I am still culling that so that I can get back all of the space that that directory took up. I think that there are lots of people struggling with this upgrade, so thanks Kiwi, for spreading the news that this may be a longer process to some than might be expected. My other machines took quite a while to update, so the warning is valid.

Two of my machines upgraded to 2004 without any issues. Two of them refuse to upgrade, even manually. They get almost to the end and I get an error message, and the process aborts. This has never happened to me before.

And it reset all my audio players back to the default (only one and easily fixed) and altered the colours of the square boxes around my Office products on the Start menu (back to black from green or orange or something).
One day they will change the wrong default and really annoy me.

Coincidental with the Thursday W-10 upgrade and to condo lawn being mowed I got the Blue Screen of Death. Ndu.sys failure, Watchdog violation....had the same problem in the past...

I use the solid-state drives and so again had to go in and update the driver; the update was the same drive category, same driver, Deja Vu all over again. I am having difficulty reconciling why the weekly Thursday lawn being mowed would affect the solid-state drive driver. Surely it is not a W-10 bug, is it??

[the problem can also be the network adapter driver this time the drive driver seemed to be the cure]

The problem was cured until the grass needs to be mowed again.
-----------------------
Hell, it failed again so into the drivers for network card i will go.... annoying....

I just completed the same W10 upgrade, with a few Office upgrades thrown in on an old laptop and a desktop. The desktop took about 45 minutes and the laptop an hour or so. Sounds like you've got some serious problems in there. First time I've seen a Kiwi on here, how are things across the ditch?

I did the latest upgrade a few days ago and have had problems with my laptop since. I uninstalled the upgrades and still have problems. Took forever to do the upgrades just to screw up my computer. It is still locking up
a lot. I have learned a valuable lesson. If your computer is working to your satisfaction leave it alone!

Mine updated in about 10 minutes. Last windows update did over a few sessions. Maybe this one will be the same.

My ten year old Dell labtop with only 4gb of ram is like your 2 that refuse. I went thru the same thing & called Microsoft. The tech tried & couldn't complete the upgrade & a higher grade tech called me back on Saturday & spent about an hour & a half to complete it. That was last year & they said that was the last upgrade my ole laptop was capable of. It use to have win 7 but they sent me an email saying my computer was capable of getting the win 10 upgrade. Alot more secure but, it ran much faster on Win 7.

I have just had 4 PCs go through this. Two older laptops and 2 workstations. The laptops took about 3 hours each, 1 WS took about 2 hours and can't remember the other but it was a long time. So plan the upgrade first thing in the morning when you have a whole day ahead NOT at the end of the day. This is one seriously long upgrade. Even longer if you check for other upgrades first and do those.
One of the laptops I did this -
updated antivirus
updated Abobe CC
performed several Windows upgrades
upgraded Macrium Reflect
Windows 2004 upgrade
updated several other minor programs
All up it took 7 hours !!
Then a 40 minute image backup over the network to another PC. Thank God I am retired.

Oddly, one of mine that did upgrade without any problems was a 13 year old Dell laptop, also with 4 gb of RAM. The other that did upgrade is a 3 year old Dell AIO. My 3 year old HP Envy 17 inch laptop would not and will not upgrade, even manually. Same with a 7 year old Samsung Series 9 notebook. Age is obviously not a factor when you consider my very old Dell laptop. (I only keep it for the firewire port. I find myself transferring digital video from tape from time to time.)

There were other upgrades that has to be done before 2004 is running. Mainly to do with the drivers not being compatible with it.

I am asking you the question. Have you been using Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 for the last 16 years? I don't understand what you are calling Windows 2004 upgrade.

It is an update for Windows 10.
