Here's a question that I have asked myself many times. Perhaps you may want to ask yourself as well.

"How much money (of yours or of others) would you spend to get the job you have or had?"

Well, a Congressman or Senator politician spends millions of dollars in mostly contributions to get a job that pays $174,000 a year. Sounds quite strange to me and this is not taking any political party side for they are all the same.

Then...spend millions more of other peoples contributions each time that they come up for re-e******n.

So..."How much money was contributed by others to you to get your job and to keep your job?"
Here's a question that I have asked myself many ti... (show quote)

I believe the more operative approach would be to make the money secondary. Power is the prime driver. With power comes the money, and not necessarily in cash. Power exists in many forms.

I'm currently reading the book "Grant", by Ron Chernow. Washington, D.C. was a cesspool, even during the 1861-1865 war. There are any number of references by the author of the corruption which was overt, even then. Thinks haven't improved, probably worsened in the succeeding 160 years.

1. Term limits.
Senate—2 terms (12 years)
House—6 terms (12 years)

2. Reduce congress’ pay and allowances.
The American people were not put on the face of the earth to make the people serving in Congress rich(extremely rich). Trim their pay while active, and VERY drastically reduce their retirement. Tie any pay raises to military pay (both active duty and retirees) and social security.
Congress will reject both of these ideas because they won’t want us( the people they are paid to serve) putting our hands in their pockets.

Also, eliminate lobbying. Make it a class 1 felony to accept ANY forms of compensation during your tenure in government. Any acceptance should be prison and loss of all forms of compensation and perks of your office.

On the contrary I consider everyone my friend. If you choose not to be a friend then that onus and stupidity is all about you not me. I am capable of having disagreements with even best friends I have known for years. Each of us still considers the other a friend no matter who we v**e for.

Your answer identifies you as a small minded corrupt Liberal who most likely has NO friends, not even other Liberals. It must truly suck to be you.

And again, you are not my friend and consider you an enemy of good Americans. Your malarkey just shows how shallow you thinking is.

Thank you. I was completely right in my thinking of you and you are good enough to prove it twice now. I could not have asked for better than you have provided. God is truly Great.

Muchas gracias amigo,

And then the question is: Why do you think about me? I do not swing that way, maybe some of your trump buds can help you out.

I think friends who will be honest enough to disagree with you when such things arise are valuable, because you don't have to second guess their true intentions at any particular moment.

Nice concept, but it probably wouldn't stand a Constitutional challenge even if the v**es were 435-0 and 100-0. The idea of lobbying whether there's a quid pro quo or not, is inherent in the Constitution via the 1st Amendment. In part, it states, "...or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." And "the people" has always been very broadly interpreted.

Congresspeople still have to run for re-e******n, and raising money, even indirectly, is already in the fabric of politics; otherwise it's not politics.

Biden is probably one of the worst offenders, ever. While he's not personally gaining financially, his family and close friends are making boatloads of cash. And I'm quite sure he's not the only one.

Mitch McConnell's wife is Elaine Chao, the Commerce Secretary. Her family is closely tied to Chinese commerce, and while McConnell may not show it on his income tax, he probably has some trusts somewhere that benefit.

There are Congresspeople who do have only their income from their office, and D.C. is one of the most expensive places to reside in the country. Their are any number of stories about single income representatives sleeping in their offices, and bathing in the gym shower rooms.

There's already a lot of self reporting, but unless there's some independent agency which can refer misdeeds and corruption to the DoJ, it's impossible to completely police.

Just as in the tax code, the tighter the IRS squeezes, the faster people with smart lawyers and CPA's find legal ways to avoid the taxes.

Wow! Did Trump spank the wheelies in Congress with his Executive Order or not? What a brilliant move DJT.

No they don’t. When they got rid of the federal Civil Service Retirement System in the early 1980’s, they put all new workers on Social Security. They tried awfully hard to get everyone currently on CSRS to switch to FERS, but only 1/2 of 1% did. However, because CSRS was a much better retirement system, Congress kept it for themselves.

What way is that? What are you talking about? I think about you when reading or answering your post. I do the same with everyone. Hard to answer if I am not thinking what I am going to say. Do you somehow think
you are more important than that? Sorry my friend. Other than the time it takes to prove over and over your inability to tell the t***h or be relevant you mean nothing to me and probably nobody else either.

. Not true !!
cSRS was stopped for ALL new government employees in 1984
Since then all new employees to include congress have been in FERs.

You are dead wrong !!

In the house there are only 6 members that came in before the 1984 day ( 4 of which are republicans)

I think there are only 2 or 3 senators

Unknown if either converted to FERs.

They pay SS just like you and I and pay for health insurance.
