Congress

Isn’t it time we crack down on the worthless Congress we now have? Many people are desperately trying to figure out how they are going to put the next meal on the table and all the while our over-fed fat cats in Congress are playing politics while not approving the next stimulus package so desperately needed by many.
We need to change the system and allow ONLY one item at a time to be put on a bill. No more adding items to the bill that many times have little or nothing to do with the original intent of the bill and probably wouldn’t pass on their own. I realize in some instances this may slow the system down somewhat but how fast is the system working right now such as on the stimulus package? When something is tacked on a bill it only gives the opposite side an opportunity to object to what amounts many times to trivial arguments that delay passing something of importance. If an item can’t pass on its own merit it shouldn’t be allowed to be piggybacked on another bill: period.
I for one am tired of Congress being paid then spending so much time arguing about insignificant provisions of a bill while delaying passage of something badly needed by many. I wonder how fast the stimulus bill would pass if it was Congress members families not having the money to purchase groceries? This country needs some major changes, and probably starting with Congress would be an excellent starting point.

I would like to see something along these lines as well. Another way to do it is approve line item veto by the pres, but that has the danger of giving somebody too much power. I think that's the argument, anyway. I make no claim at political expertise.

1. Term limits.
Senate—2 terms (12 years)
House—6 terms (12 years)

2. Reduce congress’ pay and allowances.
The American people were not put on the face of the earth to make the people serving in Congress rich(extremely rich). Trim their pay while active, and VERY drastically reduce their retirement. Tie any pay raises to military pay (both active duty and retirees) and social security.
Congress will reject both of these ideas because they won’t want us( the people they are paid to serve) putting our hands in their pockets.

I think you will find many of us completely agree with you. It was never the thought of our Founding Fathers for anybody to have so much power and to spend decades in Congress. Their thought was more along the lines of a few years and then someone else would step in/be elected to give their ideas a try. Our present Congressional members such as Joe Biden, Mitch McConnell, Schumer and Pelosi to name only a few have long ago worn out their welcome. It is ridiculous for those people to tell us Trump has done nothing in 3 1/2 years when they have all been there for decades and have done absolutely nothing about things such as the Wall, i*****l i*********n etc. Congress well deserves its lower than whale dung disapproval rating on both sides of the aisle.

We need Term Limits and NOW.

Dennis

Were you there to verify your conclusions ? You remember “ It was never the thought of our Founding Fathers for anybody to have so much power and to spend decades in Congress.” or is this just a conservative dream?

Good Luck. The make their own rules and don't give a damn what you think. They are convinced that they can pander to you every 4 (or 2) years and still get you v**e. I am for:
1. 2 Terms then Out.
2. No Lifetime pension. Contribution to a 401K while serving. 25% Salary for 6 months after leaving office. Then let them get a job and work.
3. No lifetime health care. Provide while serving and for 6 months after then they can purchase their own healthcare on the market they made.

No chance in hell of this every booming reality, but it is nice to dream once in a while.

No I do not. But you DO. Your every post is a disappointment to those of us having common sense. Your every utterance is a surprise that you can still come up with as much BS as you do.

Always a pleasure my friend,

Dennis

Here's a question that I have asked myself many times. Perhaps you may want to ask yourself as well.

"How much money (of yours or of others) would you spend to get the job you have or had?"

Well, a Congressman or Senator politician spends millions of dollars in mostly contributions to get a job that pays $174,000 a year. Sounds quite strange to me and this is not taking any political party side for they are all the same.

Then...spend millions more of other peoples contributions each time that they come up for re-e******n.

So..."How much money was contributed by others to you to get your job and to keep your job?"

You need to educate yourself on govt pensions. Congressmen get the same benifits any other government worker.
