Has anyone been able to capture the comet that is going past the earth this month? I went out this morning, but did not get anything useful. If you have been able to take a picture, what time, which direction, and what size lens did you use? It is reported to be seen with the naked eye?? I didn't see anything with a 'tail'?? (looked NE and E from Tennessee)

Was not aware of it and have not seen it but will start looking. Starting today it is supposed to be visible in the evening in the northwest sky just above the horizon shortly after sunset (about 80 minutes). It is still also visible in the mornings. It will become more visible a few days from now as the moon fades to a crescent.

Thank you gekko11 . What camera settings did you use? I'm thinking that I need to move to a different spot to look, although your shot was well above the horizon, and you even had some cloud cover! I had no cloud cover showing here this morning, but it could have been there.

I checked my settings ,,, 70-200 lens @ 125mm@ f3.2 ISO 1000, 8.0 second exposure 4:34 am . I have not been able to see it until today mainly because of clouds and haze

We might get a better view of it after it rounds the sun , it might be visible after sunset later this month

Don't forget to turn IS off when mounted on a tripod - like I did. Maybe get another chance tonight.

Good shooting here in Northern Nevada the past week. Marginally visible to the naked eye, of course. Here's my favorite image taken on the 8th around 4:45 AM. Olympus OMD-E10 MKII set to the "dreaded" Auto!

This is the best one I've gotten so far looking northeast. There's a great web page that shows where to look. It's what I used to home in on the comet. Took some binoculars to pinpoint it, but once my eyes adjusted to the dark, I could see it without binoculars.

Settings for this shot:
3.2 seconds
f/8
ISO 3200
WB: daylight (sunny)

That was with my Canon 7D / Canon 70-300mm IS II USM at 250mm

I autofocused on Venus, then turned off autofocus and image stabilization (since I had it on a tripod).
