Check out the Olympus mIx, m1 III, or the m 5 III. Nikon Z6 or 7 — both are mirrorless. I traded all my Nikon gear for the Olympus and now I use my camera much more frequently. I’ve never looked back!

Sorry, if you have to agonize over camera choices, and ask help on a trivial issue can I trust you to create a good straw man? Quote a credible study on masks and the virus. Good luck with your choice of cameras. Quixdraw out.

Years ago, there was a book, “The Ugly AMERICAN” depicting the world’s views of America derived by the observing actions and policies of our diplomatic corps.

Since all your commentary on masks is centered on you and your selfish disregard for anyone else. Your biography surely should be titled ‘the ugliest “hog” ‘ (without ‘hedging’ the meaning).

To adamantly state that you do not have the disease, means you have been accurately tested (with a verified100%certainty) by a totally sterile robot) and not touched anything or been near one single human being since the test was administered. Is that the case? If not, with your selfish approach to life, you’re a threat to society. God help those around you.

Regardless of which way you choose to go I strongly advise you get out with camera in hand, frequently. With your background I am sure you will be able to local areas you can go with fewer people. I have found getting out early in the morning around 6am reduces the people contacts. Good luck with your choice.

If you’re considering the Leica d-lux7 look at the Panasonic LX-100ii which is the same camera with the same Leica 24-75 1.7 2.8 lens. It even has a macro setting to close in on things I might normally step on. I find it’s a great travel camera that doesn’t need as much grunt to move around.

I want to hear all the pros and cons of the Leica Q2. It is quite a leap, financially, but it sounds like a less exhausting way to maximize my love of photography and travel. I know there're occasion where my Nikon will be the way to go, but will I enjoy the ease and comfort of a high end point and shoot.

Don't let anyone talk you out of the Leica Q2. Nothing has reinvigorated my photography like my Q2. I also have a D750, and a D850 and Z7, but when I go out shooting, if I dob't grab my Sony A7riii, I take the Q2. Learning to shoot with a fixed lens at 28mm is a challenge I enjoy. And I am several years older than you (an un-retired professor), and loving the Q2.

I am very close , I need to see if my local camera shop has one to handle, if not I may just rent one for a week from Borrow Lenses. I love the challenge of a new learning curve. Thanks Prof. What do you teach?

Stay safe

My D750 with my Nikon 35-80 macro f4-5.6 macro lens weighs 39 ounces including battery and strap. It is what I usually carry, though sometimes I'll bring along the 70-300 5.6. No way would i consider going up to 20 pounds worth of gear. Just trim your current kit.

I have basically two kits. A D810+150-600 Sigma Sport - 8.5 lbs - and a 2.5 lb Sony RX10M4 for those days when I feel lazy and don't want to carry around the heavy stuff. The Sony has become my general travel camera. As far as Leica's Q2 is concerned, I think the compactness and weight advantages are great, but being limited to a 28mm lens might be a little too confining.

Anyway, you just might find the Sony to fill the need for a competent camera that has good image quality, German engineered, Japanese built lens, and while not as compact as the Leicas, still can deliver excellent results.

The first two images below were taken with the RX10M3, which I had borrowed before purchasing the M4 - same Zeiss lens, same basic camera. The effective field of view is equivalent to a 24x600mm lens on a full frame camera.

My wife ordered one of those last week. It comes on Wednesday. I'm excited to see some renewed photographic excitement. Photowalks together will be more fun than ever! Thanks for posting the image examples.

When you go...go big! How about a Hasselblad X1D II 50C Medium Format Mirrorless Camera with a Hasselblad XCD 45mm f/4 P Lens (35mm equivalent). Not too far away from the Lica price range and it gives you the ability to add future lenses for when you move from "out and about" to "studio" photography as time goes on...and on...and on.
