Jonas Salk (a giant who walked among us (1914–1995)) became a national hero when he allayed the fear of a dreaded disease with his polio vaccine, approved in 1955. Polio was even more horrific than covid19.

Second you seriously need to trade that Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 for a Nikon AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR lens. which will give you over 90% of what that Tamron Beast will...

Do the math... 3.28 lb / 1.49 kg verses 1.5 lb / 680 g
There I've just saved you nearly 2lbs (1.75lbs to be exact).

At your age coming up the curve on a new unfamiliar user interface will not be a pleasant ordeal...
Once again... stay locale, be safe, wear a mask, practice social distancing etc.
covid19 is currently surging in many states (you didn't list yours so I'm clueless as to your current risk profile). All predictions indicate it will likely become resurgent in the autumn with vengeance...

Again at your age your chance of surviving intubation in an ICU is not very good... the numbers don't lie... My best friend is an ICU Nurse... she's keenly aware of how horrific covid19 is...
Bottom Line? They celebrate every time an intubated patient recovers and leaves their hospital alive...

Also you'll probably really like that new AF-P Nikkor... I have it and it's VR is beyond excellent... like 5 stops easily... feather light!

btw you may be suffering from the The Nirvana Fallacy of comparing actual things with unrealistic, idealized alternatives. better stated "the things you own will likely end up owning you"

All the best on your journey...

Really??? Moronic statement. I think in the future you should stay silent and be thought of as a fool rather than open your mouth and confirm the fact.

Sweetheart it's not the years but the miles. I've used big lenses all my years so photography. As we get older we naturally slow down. I too am '73 but still do everything I used too, only slower. You have a very good size body; take care of it.

I too am a 73 year old Nikon user (D500, D850). I recently purchased a Nikon Z50 with 16-50 and 50-250 kit lenses. This combo is light weight and an ideal travel setup. You have to get comfortable with mirrorless, but as an experienced photographer this should not be too difficult. Also, you can use all your F mount lenses with the Nikon FTZ adapter.

Thank you my senior brother, for your suggestion.

I want to hear all the pros and cons of the Leica Q2. It is quite a leap, financially, but it sounds like a less exhausting way to maximize my love of photography and travel. I know there're occasion where my Nikon will be the way to go, but will I enjoy the ease and comfort of a high end point and shoot.

I have basically two kits. A D810+150-600 Sigma Sport - 8.5 lbs - and a 2.5 lb Sony RX10M4 for those days when I feel lazy and don't want to carry around the heavy stuff. The Sony has become my general travel camera. As far as Leica's Q2 is concerned, I think the compactness and weight advantages are great, but being limited to a 28mm lens might be a little too confining.

Anyway, you just might find the Sony to fill the need for a competent camera that has good image quality, German engineered, Japanese built lens, and while not as compact as the Leicas, still can deliver excellent results.

The first two images below were taken with the RX10M3, which I had borrowed before purchasing the M4 - same Zeiss lens, same basic camera. The effective field of view is equivalent to a 24x600mm lens on a full frame camera.

Thanks for the input and the great photos. I am going to my local photography shop (when the current surge has started to recede) and try some hands on.

If company would quell the inner GAS, then start Zooming with your friends. It does take the edge off. I too had an issue with too much equipment, TME, is that a thing? I went with a Sony a7III and only two lenses. For really light days, I got the best point and shoot on the planet, Sony RX100 m7. I usually carry one of them when out. Mostly the RX and I don't even know it is in my pocket.

Good luck and stay safe...

I don't own Leica ..(sony here)...but obviously you have been bitten by the bug already.
You already want it...you know that deep down.
It is a fantastic camera system...
Just go for it.

I second the Fuji system. A burglar relieved me of all my old Nikon gear and freed me up to start over with whatever I wanted. After playing with all the systems at the camera store, I decided on the Fuji because it was lightweight, fit well in my smaller hands, and was easy to use. I do a lot of hiking and walking on my vacations and I no longer get tired carrying my gear. I love the film simulations and since I don't intend to blow my photos up to wall size, I am very happy with the photo results. But, as someone else said, go to a store and play with your options before deciding..

The only camera I will recommend is the Sony HX99. Shoots raw, has a very sharp 24-750 mm Ziess lens, pop up viewfinder for outdoor shooting, pop up flash that is very accurate for fill flash.
I have a belt pouch for it and that's all I take now around the world.

Don't let the numbers fool you. I am a retired RN that volunteers time during the current surge time. I live in the land of make believe, aka Florida(h). Back on full lock down and working via zoom. My last trip was with Nat Geo to Antartica, the weight of the backpack made my balance, on icy terrain, unsteady. I did manage to keep up. Not sure when I will be traveling again, all my trips for 2020 have been canceled. Thanks for the lens advise.

We are also travelling seniors and have taken multiple Nat Geo trips. To us travelling light has always been a key component of our travel including carry on only (except to Svalbard in July). Last year we switched from Canon to Olympus gear, saved space and weight and have been capturing more an better images because the gear is lighter and the lenses are very good. Full frame is better in certain lighting conditions, just like a 4x5 will make larger prints than a full frame, it is all about trade offs. Figure out what is most important for you and go with it. For us high quality and lighter beats heavy and full frame.

If you really like the Nikon equipment then I would just choose only the lens(s) that be the most versatile for the situation and leave the rest at home.

Don't let anyone talk you out of the Leica Q2. Nothing has reinvigorated my photography like my Q2. I also have a D750, and a D850 and Z7, but when I go out shooting, if I dob't grab my Sony A7riii, I take the Q2. Learning to shoot with a fixed lens at 28mm is a challenge I enjoy. And I am several years older than you (an un-retired professor), and loving the Q2.

Oh, I forgot to add. You can carry and extension tube if you might need to take a longer shot.
