Just wondering, have you bothered to call them and ask the manager about that problem?

I hadn't, largely because it's not that big a deal to me and I didn't want to bother the store staff with a complaint when they're doing us all a huge favor just by being open. I may give them a call, however, just to find out how I might be able to reserve a date/time.

I cannot believe how damned lazy people are getting anymore. Now they have to shop on line and have someone deliver their stuff to their front door. How many of these people check the sell by date on the groceries that are being brought to them? How many people unpack their groceries when they get them and find all the soft products like bread, pies, chips or anything soft like that and find that the canned goods and heavy things have flattened the soft products? Who checks the fresh fruit you ordered, like bananas, nectarines, apples, and why are so many of them all bruised by the time you get them? People are getting too lazy and spoiled!

I think most of the shopping being talked about here is what people are doing during our “stay home” rules.
The people you think are “too lazy and spoiled” may have no other options.
Just my opinion, of course.

Curious, why would they not have other options?

I think we are talking about now, in the past I always went out to shop and will do so again when this is over. I am 78 and and have asthma, I do not need to take chances. Shopping online and having delivery is ok for me, for now.
I do think things will change because of this. Not only shopping but I think a huge change will be telemedicine. I have had 2 check-ups online and it went very well. Telemedicine will not replace a visit but does offer a good option for those that can’t get out.

Maybe people who are more susceptible to the virus and don’t want to risk exposure.

A little unfair to make a blanket statement about people being so "damned lazy" if they use pick up service. The only reason I tried to use service is because I needed just a few items and being a quarantined, high-risk senior, I saw it as a way to stay out of the store. Don't confuse medical prudence with laziness. I would never use such a service otherwise and when I shop, I help pack my bags and if I see something has fallen off a shelf, I pick it up and put it back.

Anyway, my daughter and her husband both work long hours, they just had their first baby and they have a high maintenance rescue greyhound. These demands make it almost impossible to get to the store during store hours so the pickup service was a Godsend for them. My wife has a foot problem and can't stay on her feet long enough to do a weekly food shop without incurring serious pain. So yes, there are people who legitimately use/need the service. And yes, there certainly are people who are just too damned lazy!

What are you people doing about shopping? I went about a week ago, and it was unnerving. Everyone had masks, and people were skittish about being near other people. As more and more people get infected, the chances of coming across an infected person increase. We have 2,566 infections in the county, and 80 in the town where I shop. I'm down to eating dry cereal for breakfast.

We have a lot of food in the house, but some of it will need replacing. Stores have fewer and fewer employees, so there's more waiting to get the order checked out. We don't have any order-and-deliver stores around here.

I pretty much do a "hit & run". Shop quick and get out fast. I usually shop that way normally. Stores are limiting the number of customers now and everybody outside is well spaced out. People are pretty good about distancing in the stores. I do wear a mask and grab some sanitizing wipes as I'm leaving. You just need to follow the protection guidelines.
The bad: I see A LOT of people around here with no mask and not being at all cautious. Even some in my neighborhood having good sized gatherings. Not really sensible!

Well, I,m 77, have asthma, have a heart condition (one heart attack, results 2 stints), have COPD, have 5 bad discs in lower spine (3 of them herniated), had physical therapy for my back (don't want back surgery again), the therapy helped my back but now, after the physical therapy, my ham-strings are so bad they hurt all the time, especially first thing in the morning. In order to get any relief from the ham-string pain I have to wear a lidocane patch on the back side of each leg everyday. I was just curious how people managed to get groceries and prescriptions before these stores offered delivery. I got a chuckle when I read the post about the Gentleman that said He got potato chips from Amazon. Really, potato chips from Amazon? Maybe it's just me. When your Soul-mate has passed on and you are stuck in the house most of the time, by yourself, and you have to do everything for yourself, when you read about some of the things that other people complain about it makes you wonder sometimes. Stay safe and well.

I go once a week for perishable items , have a large freezer for long term storage meats and veggies, and shop on line and have the rest delivered to the house. I also call the store ahead of time to check inventory and hours of operation before I depart and I choose to shop when the store is less-occupied by crowds.
Thank God I have electricity and an Internet connection.

Jerry, I know you are joking about your dry cereal for breakfast, but seriously though Amazon has long life or powdered milk and I ordered mine yesterday and anything that will keep for months. I am one of those lazy people who are now indoors for 3 weeks without a choice, as I am in the age bracket, but thank goodness for my younger neighbours who get my fresh fruit and vegetables. I hope that one of your neighbours do the same for you.

There is also a voluntary community service set up here in the village where I live, with a different person designated to each street to help out in case of urgent need and we have their contact details.

I know what terrible flu is like, but there is a vaccine for that whereas there is no vaccine yet for the Coronavirus, so we seniors must be careful.

Please everyone, just give a thought to others and not just yourselves. I am looking forward to venturing further than my garden and returning to the various clubs that I attend and getting on with my life.

Happy holidays everyone.

H

Yeah, I'm too lazy to go out and get the virus. If I weren't so lazy I'd be out there shopping and deep breathing the virus particles emitted by asymptomatic infected persons not wearing lazy masks.

I make sure I get my ass out of bed very early on shopping days. Stores like the local grocery chain and Target are reserving first hour of some days for seniors and higher risk folks with compromised immune systems, etc., and I make sure I'm there at least 5-10 minutes before the store opens. Not only are there very few people in the store that time of morning, but you also have first shot at overnight restocking. Having a specific focus on what I've needed allowed me to nab a few small bottles of hand sanitizer during these last couple of weeks, as well as some disinfectant cleaner, and toilet paper, all of which have been out of stock for many days. To make my trip through the store faster and safer, I take a couple of big cloth shopping bags, so I can grab things, toss them in my bag, run through the checkout, and be done in less than 15 minutes. Then I toss the cloth bags in the clothes washer when I'm done unpacking them. If you have hard to get items, doing this a few days in a row also allows you a better chance in a store that has been restocked overnight.

Wasn't talking about the virus. This delivery stuff has been around before the virus problems came up. Concerning the delivery service during the virus period, just think about how many people handle the things people order online. I saw a picture last week that someone posted to one of the CBS (news?) programs where a lady had put all of her groceries in a bathtub of water after she got them home in order to wash them off. One of the items I saw was a head of lettuce! You know that the plastic that a head of lettuce is wrapped in is not water proof, so her bathtub water was leeching into her lettuce. But hey, her lettuce was washed before she ate it and served her family with it. This is just one example of how stupid people are getting about this virus. If you go to the grocery store just stay away from other people, wear a mask if you have been lucky enough to find any to buy,and wash your hands often, keep your fingers out of your nose and your mouth, don't touch your eyes, and wash your hands again. Common sense seems to be a thing of the past anymore.
