Sometimes I Just Shoot Dirt...
I really like the colors in the Yucca Stalks - and Sand is just awesome!

LarryD.,
Love the sand pic. Wow. Stunning and fun to see.
For me, the sky looks too blue in picture #1 and is somewhat distracting versus the tones of the rock/dirt. Is this natural or saturated?
Your choice of subjects is interesting and different for those of us not in a desert. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thank You..
I get this question all the time... That's how the sky is out west and no extra manipulation is done... It's blue, especially deep in the early mornings and late afternoons..

LarryD,
Well isn't that a special part of the world then. Beautiful. On a somewhat related thought, I do like this last picture the thou have posted even more because there is some darker green, and stronger contrast on the rock which shows the red and the shadows. For me. this picture goes along with that dark blue sky better than the first picture you posted. Again, thanks for sharing and letting us learn with you.
David.

I find a lot of my Arizona photos have a sky so blue it looks unreal, even when properly exposed. Sometimes I find myself desaturating the photos just to make them look "normal".
Wow, love the color contrast! Great shots. What filters did you use?
I LOVE THAT DEEP BLUE LOOK, KEEP IT!
To each his own. I love the sky in the Sand. Not quite natural but adds beauty to the photo.

"Not quite natural"...:D You need to come out West... That sky is as natural as can be... It's out there every morning...just like that - I have thousands of images.... ;)
Interesting shots. My family has been in Arizona since 1858 and I still am amazed at the unphotographed scenery available if you just LOOK!

A problem we have photographing scenery in Arizona is that we have so many spectacular views we tend to walk right past some wonderful opportunities. To us it may be quite ordinary but fantastic to others who do not see on a daily basis.

Yep.... with a Polarizer in Arizona and Nevada, the sky can be almost deep indigo - near black in the mornings and afternoons..
I'll check my photo library and see if I have some of those...

absolutely fabuous shots. First off larryd you are lucky to have that rich deep blue sky. its an incredible backdrop. love the texture in your photos but especially sand. you have an oportunity in the desert to build up a portfolio of what i call minimalist style shots. sand would be a perfect example. simple elegant, yet still captivating.

Thanks... I have quite a few sand images.. I'll probably post a few, but I'll start a different thread ... things get lost if a thread is too crowded...
Now, the blue skies are dominant in the summer and mid winter... clouds are cropping up now for the spring
I was just thinking the same thing when I saw your reply,GOOD observation.

Larry, first of all love your sense of humor!
Also, all nice shots, but I really, really love the sand shot, the texture really pops!
I know what you mean about the sky out there. I'm always amazed, maybe even more so at night! The stars are incredible!
