I think I would have to go with number 2, more in line with the rule of thirds, and also makes you wonder where the rocky curve is going to take you!

Great shot, Fstop12! Terrific example of being in the right place at the right time and taking advantage of it.

Clouds are more dramatic. I vote for #1

The old Photo 101 trick. Thanks you really have a great point. Photo #1 leads you right out of the photo and I can see #2 leads you right in. I've read that at least a dozen times, 'You need to lead the eye in and hold it there'.. Hands on and feedback is what I need, to learn, Thanks again..

Print #2. The diagonal of the tracks are cutting the frame into, and leading the eyes straight out of the right side. A photographic No No!!.

Actually, if you'll forgive my suggestion, I'd like to see the sky from #1 on the #2 photo and crop it a bit to bring the converging parallels away from the center. It's an easy change in PS.

I strongly disagree - the sky in #2 has a swirl RIGHT where the rails & bushes lead you - it kept my eye in the frame for about 4 cycles - very well done!

That's why everyone can have their own camera. Nobody sees it the same way.

Both are very good photos, though.

By the way, I'm always shooting clouds for the express purpose of using them to replace a bald sky or less interesting cloud formations.

I agree, I really liked the clouds in #1, but thought the rest was better in #2.

Where did you shoot this?

The first picture automatically draws my eye to the tracks because it is right there up close and personal. The second one the tracks are not the very first thing that I notice. But, it seems kind of empty. I like 1 the best but would like to see both rails and ties. But I like rusty things......LOL
Oh, and I am new at this as well, so my opinion doesn't hold any weight, listen to the pros.

Wow, I was definately more taken by #1. Art should make your mind wander as you discover the message and that's what #1 does for me. #2 is the technical perfection that is more typical, but #1 took my mind someplace else as I had to figure it out.

Two. Consider having it printed as triptych. That will add additional interest, and draw people into print. Good job.

I see what you tried to do, but just with the one rail #1 is really hard to follow. #2 is better because you can follow the line. However, I would look for something better to print. To follow both rails around the corner moving from left to right, would be great.

I don't have RR tracks. They are on the list, I am going to try to get a curve moving your eyes through the picture and out. I do not know when I get this oportunity.
