I have found FedEx to be non reliable, they were great years ago, I think they use contractors and not employees. That way they don't have the control as much as employees. Im also believe this delivery business has been destroyed by the big mail order companies negotiating low prices and winner gets all.

What a nightmare I am experiencing getting my camera body and three lenses back from service.
First attempt “by end of business day”. So much for the “end” part. I was out riding my horse at 10:45 a.m. when they made the first delivery attempt.

Second attempt with same timeframe both my husband and I were home...he outside with the RV running (he does monthly service checks) and me 30’ from the front door tidying our indoor/outdoor porch. He saw nothing and I heard nothing. Obviously the driver didn’t make much of an attempt. I immediately called FedEx to complain and said WTF...how could he have missed us? Offered the option to have package left at local dropzone by 6 p.m.....guess what...package was never dropped.

Called FedEx again. By this time I was losing patience, getting frustrated and increasingly concerned about my expensive gear taking an east coast tour. Was told driver would make second attempt that evening. Three guesses (first two don’t count): no package.

It is now 6 a.m. on Day 3... do I know where my package is? Guess....see previous sentence above.

I am disgruntled, worried and expect to spend the day sitting on my front stoop...in the rain...with signs lining my (longish) driveway saying (in red ink)...hey FedEx guy, I’m here. Call me! Written in caps.

Moral of the story: think twice before requiring a signature. I thought I was doing the prudent thing, but it has come back to bite me in the *ss.

If you at some point asked for it to be routed to a local drop location (many Walgreens are designated drop locations along with FedEx Kinkos) I would bet that it is sitting there waiting for you.

Yes, I got it last night and posted that earlier.

Create a Fed Ex account. On line you can the divert your delivery to a local Fed Ex Store. Works like a charm. Perhaps in rural area there are no such stores, but in urban areas, it works quite well. You get notified of the delivery and you simply go to the store and pick up package at your convenience.

I had one. Problem was with conflicting text messages and no door slips upon supposed delivery attempt.

I spent 3 days waiting because they kept updating to the next day! Finally I called the Fedex center near us(25 mi away)and confirmed they had the package and drove there to get it!

I don't receive much from FedEx and I'm glad I don't.
*My neighbor had some heavy packages delivered. FedEx left them in MY driveway, in front of MY garage door, so I couldn't get out. FedEx made a big deal out of it when I called them and asked if I could deliver them. They sent someone out when I asked them how much they would pay me to make the delivery.
*Two days ago FedEx delivered to another neighbor (and I saw this happen). The driver stopped and tossed the package (probably clothing) at the foot of the driveway, next to the sidewalk. It is an open invitation for theft!

It may be simply lost and that is why they aren't stopping by your house. I bought some stuff from B&H that included an iPad and a few days later the tracking said it was out for delivery. But it also said it was in the wrong city. I had my doubts so I waited until the next day to call B&H. The traced it and also came the the same conclusion as me. So the placed another order for me of the same stuff and yes, it was a huge delay, like instead of getting me stuff in 3 days it took 8 days... But B&H will do everything in their power to get you your stuff.

If there's a Fedex office near you, you can tell them you will pick up the shipment there. That's the best thing to do if delivery to home fails.

Fortunately for me I live near three FedEx Office locations, and almost always I have my packages dropped off to one of them. It’s the best way to go, especially if you have a delivery that needs a signature and you know you won’t be home to receive it. Peace of mind and hassle free going this route.

On expensive gear I always have it shipped to the Fed Ex or UPS Terminal where I pick it up, not as convenient, but I do not have to worry about porch thieves or waiting all day long for delivery at my home...

My latest FEDEX sig required delivery was from KEH. Doorbell video alerted me as the FEDEX driver pulled up at the curb. I was standing there waiting to sign his paperwork before he got to the door bell.

I'm sorry you had bad news but you can't fault FedEx, or anyone else for that matter, for saying "by end of business day" and then showing up during the morning. That specifically tells one it will be sometime between rooster crowing and cows bedding down so 10:45 was well within the guaranteed time slot.

It would be nice to read the driver version of all the events to have a full picture, perhaps entertaining as well.

Get the FedEx app. It was a great help to me.

One thing I do now for B&H shipments (if signature is required or if I'm in doubt) is have the package delivered to either a FedEx facility (where you can pick up at your convenience during their work hours) or have it delivered to a Walgreen's drugstore (a dedicated FedEx dropoff and delivery location). So far it has worked great for me but then I don't live in a rural area.

One way to avoid that in the future is to go to fedex.com and sign up for an account. It's easy and costs nothing. Any package being shipped to you will show up. You don't even need a tracking #. You can set up what alerts you want. I have mine set so that I get a robocall when a delivery is made since I seldom hear the driver knock. If he even does, which I doubt unless a signature is required. In that case I post to my acct directions to go to a different door. Works just fine for me. I always get a call within minutes so packages don't sit on my porch even though that has never been a problem on the dead end road I live on.
Maybe I'm just lucky but the service I get from both FedEx and UPS is generally excellent.

Very good advice. Makes options available with FedEx that aren't otherwise and I've found it useful.
