I downloaded the latest Apple update. What a mistake. I lost my Picasa photo rditor,my DVD player and others. I downloaded Luminar 4 but although it does a lot of good things it cant replace Picasa. So I am having the update removed and go back to 32 bit

I’m looking into an older MacBook, so I have 2 Quick questions. How old is your Mac, and were you able to call apple support?

Mine is a mid 2010 macbook pro. Support of any kind stopped last year, but that doesn't mean there is no support out there. Generally speaking i have found enough support for what i do, including replacing parts.

This update was announced two years ago and they sent out constant reminders that they were going from 32 to 64 bit and to check and upgrade your programs. Some things always get lost but Apple and others have to keep improving just to keep up.

Shame, I much prefer to remain current with the OS & all applications so I get all the benefits of the latest technology.

I jumped on Catalina as soon as it was released, yes, some 32 bit apps would no longer run, but they were the dinosaurs, and no harm losing them for better faster apps.

As long as Photoshop, Lightroom, Apple Mail, Firefox, my backup apps & a few other important apps run I am golden!

Too bad they don't make it backwards compatible.

In the same vein... I have an older iPad that can't install the latest OS. So, some of my apps aren't current and a few won't even run anymore. Too bad... But, I'm not getting a new iPad until this one dies.

After I updated the MacOS I can no longer tether my Canon 7D II to my MAC. Now awaiting an update from Canon.

Latest Mojave update should have corrected that.

Mojave is the old last 32 bit OS, Catalina is the latest 64 bit only OS.

Once updated to Catalina, Mojave updates are not relevant.

This happened to me yesterday. I decided to create a partition on my mac and install catalina. That was easy enough to do. I managed to import my photos library from high sierra to the new partition and it worked....amazing I thought.Today when I went into photos the normal way via high sierra it said I needed to upgrade photos to the latest version...which I knew for a fact doesnt work with high sierra. The resaon I installed it on a partition was because I knew that my versions of lightroom and photoshop were unlikely to work with catalina.
Anyway after a call to apple I used a time machine backup to restore the photos library in high sierra which is now working again.
I shall only use catalina for banking and surfing and continue to do my edits in high sierra.
Everytime I upgrade it turns into a nightmare but this may be the best way of dealing with it.
