i'm devastasted with this news , i'm italian and Kobe was in Italy since the father played basketball in Rieti and my son played together with Kobe when they start to play basket , he speaks italian very well and his family was loved by italian citizens
i can say without any doubt he was one of the best NBA basket players in US history together with MJ they did the history of the basket in US and in the world
RIP
Based strictly on media reports, I'm suspicious of this being the Kobe Bryant crash. First of all, heavy fog was reported in the area, where none is seen here. And, the terrain in the video doesn't appear much like the crash site shown in the news. Right or wrong, the crash is horribly tragic and underscores the dramatically heightened risk of helicopter travel. A risk rarely explained, if ever, to an innocent passenger. As a retired, aviation professional, my position has always been to never set foot in one.
I watched the news last night and although I am not a basketball fan I felt sorry for the loss since I knew who he was. His daughter also died in the accident which I am sure is even more devastating for the family.
Sad news indeed.

And he is different from Donald Trump how? ....also accused, by multiple victims.
When I fly in anything, I just assume that there won't be any problems. Flights are safe almost all the time, but "almost" is the kicker.
"General aircraft—airplanes, helicopters, balloons, blimps, and everything else—average 7.28 crashes for every 100,000 hours of flight time. The crash rate for helicopters alone is 9.84 per 100,000 hours. That means helicopters crash about 35 percent more often per hour in the air than your average aircraft."

My friend sent me this link to an amateur video of the last seconds before the crash. It is not verified, but the scenery matches what I saw from local broadcasts. It looks as though the chopper lost tail rotor function or control which led to crash. Really, really, SAD!
https://youtu.be/JprJViQzfywIf this video is real then the accident had nothing to do with the fog. The helicopter was in the clear when it lost control, and I agree that it seems the tail rotor failed.

Already called out as a fake video, circiulating social media......, actual ground shots/video I've seen show fog, poor visibility, from normal news outlets/first responder.

The (fake) video that was posted did show somerthing falling off that ill-fated chopper, a few seconds in, would be easy to fall for it. That one was "final" in it's outcome too......
My local TV News said a fake video of the helicopter crash was put online.

https://youtu.be/JprJViQzfywI would not trust that video, does not look at all like the terrain in that area and supposedly the chopper flew right into the hillside at about 150 mph in a heavy fog.

Are you implying that Bryant was flying the helicopter? He wasn’t.
Bryant was known for using a helicopter to fly to local events.
As well as movie stars, CEO's, and other rich people. Many own their private jet planes , rather than helicopters, and have a pilot on payroll, to take them wherever they want to go. Or they will rent a private jet plane and pilot. See how many private jets will be flying to Miami, for the Superbowl. The privately owned airports will be filled to capacity. The average working man in Miami, will not be able to afford to take his wife to the Superbowl. It's a rich people thing now. Kobe Bryant was rich too. Just like others.
