I made sure I was at home for my expected delivery today. I checked tracking and FedEx claims I was not home for signature @ 10:10 am... THIS WAS NOT TRUE. This is the 3rd time. I finally got FedEx's phone # and filed a formal complaint. I Can't stand it when they make up excuses! I hope others call so we can get better service.

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger, I have had the same problem with UPS and Fed-X just leaving packages on the front porch and not knocking on the door eve though there is a sign on the door to knock Hard, the last time this happened I happened to I the kitchen and watched this happen, I went to the door and yelled at the driver, I ask why there was no knock, the driver (UPS) said the guy was new and drove off.
One of my nieces husband works for Fed-X Air, he told my a great number of their delivery people are contract carriers.

ALL of the delivery services are only as good as the workers that work in your location. I don't think it's a company wide problem for a particular company. There are some slackers in all of them. That's why we hear mixed reviews from different parts of the country.

One thing you need to look at is to see WHICH Fed EX is actually delivering the package. Fed Ex Express or Fed Ex Ground. These are two entirely different entities. Unlike UPS or even US Postal, Fed Ex Ground uses independent contracted drivers for Fed EX GROUND. These drivers do their own scheduling and routes. It is an odd arrangement, they are still part of the Fed Ex network but often operate quite independently. They drive Fed Ex themed trucks and wear the uniforms of Fed Ex but that is where the similarity ends. Fed Ex started as an express delivery company only. But to compete with UPS, they purchased various ground shipping companies in the U.S. They are cheaper than UPS and mostly they work OK but they are NOT the same caliber of Fed Ex Express or UPS.

I was in charge of shipping at the company I just retired from and we had deliveries every day from Fed Ex Express, UPS and Fed Ex Ground. You could almost set you watch with the UPS and Fed Ex Express drivers but the Fed Ex Ground guys could arrive anywhere from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm.

We use FedEx quite a bit at my place of employment and most of the time they do just fine. Other times not so much. I recently had a package coming from NY (to FL) for which I paid extra for 2nd day service. It took just over a week. Go figure. The latest one was an FE ground shipment of the owners' skis being shipped to CO for their annual ski vacation... I've been doing this same shipment for the last 5 years (even have stored labels for each direction) with nary a hitch. This year I thought I'd check on the shipment the day after the pickup... turns out delivery was scheduled for the following day. Huh? How do they do that?? Then I noticed that the package was being delivered BACK TO OUR LOCATION. Then, after we'd decided how to deal with that the package didn't show up and had magically made it back on its way to CO, with a scheduled (?!?!) arrival 4 days into their vacation. I managed to get it all worked out in the end but it took 2 days of multiple calls and several discussions with various supervisors from whom we received many apologies but just a few results. Will we use them again? Yeah, probably... this was a pretty extreme example. And compared to some of the shipping things I deal with sending our products around the world via numerous freight companies, this was actually just another day at the office. Amazing what one can endure.

Fed-Ex, seems to do the best job of delivering in my area, at least for my deliveries . I cant speak for others in my neighborhood.
Packages always come within the time frame that they say it well be delivered, and I would say at least 95 % of the time I get either a knock on the door or a ring of the doorbell. Even the contracted deliveries are on time and those drivers have even taken the time to have a short conversation if I happen to home when the delivery comes.
I have a camera set up at my front door and the UPS drivers seem to be the worst when dropping off a package, usually a throw and run from about ten foot from my front porch. Oh well enough on that subject....

I usually have the exact opposite problem with FedEx. I am home, expecting a delivery that requires a signature, and late in the day I find the package on the front door step with a “customer signed” note on it.

Fed Ex and UPS are merging. The name of the new merged company will be: Fed Up.

I have experienced the same thing and Fedex has the position that their driver is always correct. One day I was in my front yard on my riding mower and, while wearing hearing protection, I saw the driver scoot up to my front door and stick a tag on the door. He did not ring the bell or have the package in his hand, just a previously written sticker for the front door. I stopped him, exchanged pleasantries and received my package. I refused to sign the receipt and told him to have his supervisor call me. I have never received a call. This happened a few years ago.

It seems to go by area. I hear good things about FedEx from other areas, but here their performance is poor.
The drivers seem OK but the office folks seem permanently out to lunch. UPS seems to know more what is important and acts like it. UPS people just get the job done. Please get your stuff together FedEx, we need you and would like yo say good things about you.

I wish I could agree, but my experience precludes it. Two summers back, I purchased a used (great deal, too) Canon 6D. The Camera was listed as 'on the way' for 4 business days before it ever left the original pick-up site, then traveled approximately 100 miles per day (in the wrong direction) for 3 days, then sat for 2 days as nothing moves on Sundays. Then another day in the wrong direction.... Then it took 2 more days to go from Chicago to Dallas. Miraculously, the package made it to within 70 miles of my home on Thursday morning, July 3. There it sat until Monday July 7. All in all it was 15 days from shipping to delivery. And did I mention the delivery was charged extra for 'express' delivery? I have refused business from those who refuse to use other shippers......

If I have a problem with a delivery, it's something from FedEx. They usually get it right, but they also get it wrong more than UPS, USPS, or DHL.

Must be the driver. If a signature is required for delivery and he states not one available he basically doesn’t have to stop. If he does this 5 or 6 X daily he still gets paid the same but gets to go home early. Job scimming ?

I had a part replaced and they sent the new one with a return label. The old part was put in the box and I put the return label on and took it to the local store that does Fess's Ex shipping. They could not accept that label, it had to go directly to a Fed Ex location (this was because it took a special reader or something). The Fed Ex location was over 40 miles away. I called the company and had them make a normal return label .
