A simple question...

How many "photographers" are actually in this group (i.e., "bad" photographers who think they're "good")? I don't think I've ever met any in my circle of acquaintances or on UHH for that matter...

Just because someone likes their photos or posts them on Gallery doesn't necessarily mean they think they are a good photographer......?

Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will.

THAT's quite good. A seemingly very likable fellow there.
Thanks! I'm not sure if that's true or not, but the pic makes me smile.

OK, I've read all 10 pages and a question about this subject hasn't been brought up yet. Sure, everyone makes bad shots occasionally and everyone can take a great shot now and then. And also true, people improve. But, what is it about some photographers whose work consistently excels all the time. How do they maintain their consistency?

Do you know any personally? Do they really never need to delete a single photo?

The master has deleted more images than the beginner has ever taken.

One of the keys to better practices that better photographers understand is to always show your best work.

You're only as good as the worst image you share.

OCD, Over Achiever, competitive, seeking attention, ETC. I don't think that Michael Jordan or Tiger Woods would have gotten to their level of proficiency if it weren't for all the recognition that they received. I don't think that photography is any different.

Why does it matter? If people enjoy doing photography, no matter how good they are, isn’t that what really matters? Whether individuals over- or under-evaluate their skills, I suggest that many or most of us don’t rate our skills accurately.

Is this your answer to your own question, "How do they maintain their consistency?" It seems you're suggesting that it's not that they don't have failures; they just don't share them.

I wonder if Jackson Pollack ever thought his work was good...or bad?

I reckon PollOck is a genius and his work is exquisite.

I think the same of Photographers Edward S, Koen Demuynck et al...
It's because of their work I know I'm just a hack.
