I'm not a real smart person, that is obvious. But I'm wondering if your camera produces 20MP files, why you can't set the camera to a different (smaller MP) setting to help yourself deal with the file size. Or look up on the internet how to make the file smaller to send in your email. Sure would save you alot of frustration šŸ¤”šŸ˜.

Yes, I have a choice and chose full size RAW. Don't remember if someone recommended that or if out of my own ignorance chose it. At the time didn't know that it would make this kind of difference. What you are saying, if I understand, is this makes all the difference in the number of MB and my ability to send my pics. Interesting. Well, as I told you , my nephew is in the process of accomidating my ignorance. Oh, boy. The camera is a Canon 80 D. Have had it less than a year. If I live long enough, I might just smarten up. Oh, boy. Something to look into in the morning. Thanks for the thought. I will sleep better now. 3:00 am.

It will be a while before my knowledge base will catch up with all of this information. The bottom line is my pics are too big and to send them to someone would cause them a problem if they could receive them, or it is even more likely my server can't/won't send them. So the answer is Down Size. Sounds like my medical doctor, doesn't it? Thanks for your help. I plan on keeping your article address and when possible having it printed.

Windows isn't preventing you from sending a large file. It's your email program.

I use Dropbox - you get a free 2 gb account just for signing up.

https://www.dropbox.com/basic You can get additional space if you recommend people that sign up using you as a reference, and there are some promotions that give you more space. But the best part is that it's free.

It used to be super easy to use Dropbox. Maybe itā€™s me...or my computer? I can no longer right click on a folder in Dropbox and get ā€œcopy Dropbox link ā€œ from the fly out menu. So, I went to my Dropbox account and my folder of pictures wasnā€™t even there. I had to create a ā€œshareā€ folder, then fill it with my 126 pictures before I could share it. Then it wouldnā€™t accept the email address I entered. I fiddled around with it and finally got it to work. My granddaughter just told me that she got the pictures. Whew!!

Iā€™m using a Mac with the latest Mohave OS. I havenā€™t upgraded to Catalina yet. What could be the problem?

WHY ARE YOU PAYING FOR AOL IN THE FIRST PLACE? They are the problem. Since their earliest days they not only limited your outgoing file transfer size, but also filter mail files being sent to you if the file size is too big for their liking. Also, AOL is famous for blocking websites that you may want to visit for various reasons. You will not even know that those sites are on the Internet because of AOL's filtering. That is why AOL's subscribership has dropped so much over the years. You do not even need AOL to get on the internet in the first place. AOL markets themselves as an enhanced service when in fact they limit your access and options compared to almost all other options. You do not connect to the Internet via AOL. AOL is an extra cost addon.

Your actual connection to the internet is via your ISP (Internet Service Provider) such as AT&T, the local cable TV company, satellite, etc. All you need to do is enable the mail software built into your computer's operating system. If you have a PC, the program is called "Mail". If you have an Apple computer, it also has a program called "Mail". MAIL ON EITHER COMPUTER SYSTEM DOES NOT COST YOU A DIME! If you have Microsoft Office on your computer, you can use Microsoft Outlook. Outlook is one of the most versatile mail programs out there.

I just read on MAC MOST to NOT use the email provided by your WiFi provider, ie: AT&T, Comcast, etc. Googleā€™s Gmail is a better choice or use iCloud from Apple (for MAC users).

Can Google Docs be used to send pictures?

Well there is your problem, AOHell.
Switch over to Gmail (most popular) or any of the other free email services like yahoo or outlook. However with a gmail account you get a suite of other very useful free apps. The two that allow you to share images easily are Google Drive and Google Photo which is great for photo storage and back up, free unlimited! It is also a photo editor. You also get google docs which is a great word processor, google sheets for spread sheets. Google news for your news feeds similar to AOL but better. Google phone which gives you an additional phone number and voice mail service. Tired of getting unsolicited calls? Get a google phone number and give that out and all the calls go there making it very easy to screen calls. The list of what google can do goes on and on. I know you asked what time is it and I told you how to build a watch but I want to point out switching from AOL to Gmail will really give you much more than aol in addition to just sharing pictures. There is also a way to have your aol email come into gmail too so you donā€™t have to worry about the change over.

I use Faststone. I like to keep the image size the same as original. However, when I am going to send a JPG through the email service, I like to compress the image to ~ 1mb. I have not had a problem at the other end. No one complains.

What I dislike very much is an image that has had its file size reduced by *resizing* it. We loose all detail if this method is taken to the extreme.

On the other hand, if one were to go to Faststone with the desired image on the screen and do a (save as), (options), we are taken to a dialog where compression is made available via a slider control. two panels are presented so one can look at any loss of detail. My experience is that one can reduce the file size using this compression method as much as 1/10th without noticeable loss of detail.

The program is freeware without a nag screen. One can donate some bux if desired but it is truly *free* ware.

Yet another way is to use a file splitter. I use Total Commander a two panel file manager a lot like (for us old timers who remember DOS) Norton Commander. I can highlight a file that I want to split and set up the size of each file and execute the split. I then can send this photo in snippets via serialized emails. I usually say in the subject line "filename" 1 of 5, 2 of 5 etc. that will not choke for example AOL. The recipient at the other end needs to have Total Commander who can "join" the split files. I know this a bit involved but it *is* yet another choice other than changing one's email service or using a third party service to do the file transfer.

Point is that there *are* solutions to sending a picture that is 20 mb in size. Compression works for JPG. Sending a RAW file is highly specialized and may need to be send using either a file splitter or one of these solutions offered in this topic.

It can be done...

This sounds like way too much work when there are easier and free options out there. I would think that reducing a picture to 1mg would degrade it. Iā€™m not sure if the OP was sending one picture or many, but sometimes the reason images canā€™t be sent through regular email is because the COMBINED size is too large. Recently, I wanted to send 126 pictures to someone. Their combined size was over 700 mb. I used Dropbox. I had a little trouble with it, so I think Iā€™ll use Google next time.

That's funny you would say that. This is exactly what my nieces husband, also an IT specialist, recommends for me. Google.

Am trying to follow the directions on the internet. They don't always use the same titles as suggested I look for in Windows. So, no success yet, but I'll keep trying. It will get done.
