Try resizing your image attachments and use any email tool you desire ....

Recommended resizing parameters for digital images

I read the entire thread you referenced. Very good information. Currently, I export from Lightroom without resizing the images. It’s interesting to note that a 90% and 85% reduction BOTH result in a 51% smaller file.

You made me get up from my couch and go to the computer in my office to try resizing. My 126 pictures without resizing is 293 MB. Resizing to 2048 on the long edge gives 268 MB. Keeping the long side 2048, a resolution of 85% gives 161 MB for all 126 pictures. Further reducing to 80% results in 110.5 MB. Still too large to send in an email since 36.7MB is the largest size allowed by Comcast, including header and message text. However, I did set up an Export preset using the resize option of 80% for use when I want to send a folder of pictures (less than 50 pics). Even 51 pictures is too much...44.2 MB. As it turns out, 40 pictures in a folder was the max I could send in an email...36MB. Now I know!!!

My pictures come from a Sony a7iii camera, a 24.2 MP camera. I know pixels are different than bytes. This info is included for information purposes. It is also the reason I chose this camera over the R version and also why I don’t want the a7Riv. The files are too large.

Thanks for the information. Good reading for all!! Now I know that Dropbox is my best option or maybe wetransfer for sending a folder of more than 40 pictures (in my case). YMMV

The other option is to create a group Shutterfly account and upload pictures to it that all members can view, edit, and print. Currently, I send the best pictures from each family event there; but sometimes a member wants to see ALL the pictures.

Glad to help. There's two ideas involved in this discussion:

1) How do I attach 1 (or a few) images and send directly as email attachments without creating an email 'too large' to send?
2) How do I send a large number of digital images, say 10+ total images?

Share-site tools like dropbox address question 2. Resizing the digital images address specifically question 1, and may apply also to question 2.

Redirecting questions is often a necessity. Occasionally, we just KNOW the OP is lost and doesn’t know it. Then, too, there are teachable moments for others following the thread. I, for one, am happy to see a thread meander a bit.

.... Well, I still have a hard time visualizing large image files sent to friends, co-workers, family, that need to be over 1-1.5MB in size. They will NEVER be printed over 5"x7" if at all!!
~ I have NEVER had a complaint that the image was difficult to look at because it is "low res".
~I HAVE had complaints that a particular image would not open because their computer couldn't handle it or took forever (30 seconds or more!) to open!! Or, their computer or server could not deal with size (which I feel is quite weird and attribute it to lack of computer knowledge -- which I'm fine with.). ..
.....A DIFFERENT scenario if sent to a paying client! I Send the best!!

Very interesting to read your comments about where I am in my development. For the most part you all are correct. Because I know so much, and so little, there is a little confusion before it all becomes clearer to me. Up to now my concern is dealing with one pic at a time. As it is, one large raw image. You all were good about helping me see the merits of downsizing. Most of what gets done here is by listening to what you say and researching the net and trying to put it together. My nephew doesn't teach me, he fixes things for me, which I prefer to learn and know how to do these things for myself. Have taken on this challenge and with your perceptive comments, I am learning how to get there. Thanks for your interest and wisdom. Keep the advice coming. It is good.

Yes, I have a choice and chose full size RAW. Don't remember if someone recommended that or if out of my own ignorance chose it. At the time didn't know that it would make this kind of difference. What you are saying, if I understand, is this makes all the difference in the number of MB and my ability to send my pics. Interesting. Well, as I told you , my nephew is in the process of accomidating my ignorance. Oh, boy. The camera is a Canon 80 D. Have had it less than a year. If I live long enough, I might just smarten up. Oh, boy. Something to look into in the morning. Thanks for the thought. I will sleep better now. 3:00 am.

There's also the option of file compression utilities like Winzip.

I have been reading about that on the net. They make it sound easy. Started downsizing through Lr. Have had some success with that method. Thanks for your recommendation.

You can test with WinZip and / or the compression tools in Windows. Both will make very minor compression of image data. These tools are more useful for grouping multiple image files into a single transferable file rather than compressing the image data, see the demonstration below of the first JPEG I found on my desktop.

Something became obvious to me as you all have pitched in to try and help me. 1. You all are very bright people. 2. Some of you have the save thoughts about what works for you, and some have another. 3. You all seem to get along. 4. Some of you might even be professionals with tons of experience. I have the greatest confidence one of your suggestions will work for me. I may change my method of operation as time goes along, but right now my mo is to grab one that will work for me at this moment. Have kept a list of all of them. Will review that list as time goes and my knowledge grows. One other point is obvious is that you are all good at reading me. WinZip just got added to my list. Compression was already there. Couldn't get the hang of it. For the moment I am using Lr crop to shrink the size of my images. Moving them into Explorer and emailing from there. Will next look at Google's system. Thank you all for who you are and what you do. Bill
