I received Windows 20 update and clicked ok. A bout a half hour later I went to download my pics from my camera. My usual windows did not open Searching for photos in EOS Device.
It just opened K drive but no pictures???
Finally I found them in Goggle backup. This was very frustrating and getting them back on to my external hard drive from Google is not easy. Everytime there is an update, something goes wrong!

Windows has me frustrated since XP. I'm seriously considering to only use the windows platform isolated from internet and only use tab & android device to be online.

Amen! I despise all the updates on Windows 10. Seems as though every other time I turn my Windows computer on, I have to wait for 30 minutes or more for it to update. Frustrating to say the least. I only use my Windows computer for editing photos. Very seldom does it go to the internet. I use a Linux machine for about 95 percent of my internet activities - email, banking, UHH, cruising the internet, and the like. It saves a lot of frustration. I would recommend this technique.

Agreed. With every update something gets misplaced or lost. They work under the pretense that the customer will debug the program, thus they do not need to, that has been since day 1 with Microsoft and it has not gotten any better. I use it and I hate it. Linex is much better and is stable, just have a bit of a learning curve. Maybe something to consider

Microsoft has a monopoly. They also have crappy source code and QC on most updates.
They basically don't give a damn. They just pretend to. Updates benefit them, not end users. That's why I turn updates off and stay the hell away from Win 10. Garbage.

Win 7 was the last reasonable OS we'll ever see from micros**t.
It won't be long before they release WinWeb365 - - some BS OS with annual renewal fees.
I will move to Linux soon - - but my gaming and video platforms remain locked to micros**t
When the time comes - I'll lock out internet access and archive the Win10 machine to local network only.

I’ll opt to be the contrarian here and mention that I’ve had zero update issues on the multiple Win 10 machines that I use. A few observations:

1) Since most updates are updates to virus/malware definitions, it’s in your interest to download and install them, although I have my machine set to delay 30 days for any bugs to settle out. I would just add that Professional IT organizations always patch their aps and OS, and many shops have a patch manager that handles them
2) if you have Win 10 home edition, you don’t have a choice - you can delay the updates, but not turn them off. If you have the pro edition, you can delay them indefinitely.
3) if you schedule the updates at night when you’re asleep, you never notice them - they’re done when you come in.
4) Expecting MS (or any other company) to validate every update with every possible SW application and HW configuration is unrealistic - it’s just not possible to try every possible configuration in the hundreds of millions of users.
5) your options are Apple, which will cost you 2X for equivalent performance and have limited upgradability (and Apple is constantly updating as well, with their own upgrade issues which you can read about on UHH over the last few weeks) or Linux, which is good tight code, and fairly secure, but you may find limitations in what aps are available or in using your current aps. You pays your money and takes you choice - there is NO perfect OS.

For those thinking of keeping their Windows computers offline, another option for browsing is a Chromebook. I've been enjoying one for several years. The only tiny inconvenience is if I edit a photo on my laptop, I need to copy it to a thumb drive and then insert to the Chromebook for uploading to UHH. It's really no big thing, though, once you get used to the idea

Well - - you certainly pays your money. Win XP was a great OS. And so was Win 7.
Win 10 - - fixed Vista and Win 8, but better than Win 7 and XP? I don't think so.
Forced to update to Winblows 10 to keep my drivers working well, I really hate micros**t.
Of course I hate crapple more. Will Definitely be looking into Linux VERY soon.

If I am a programer assigned to Windows 10 then to continue employment I must make improvements [changes good or bad] and my boss is pleased because his people are needed and working.

To say that "leave well enough alone" is death to the assigned programmer and his wife and children will starve. we can make a similar argument regarding Adobe. Sheeple follow like sheep ignoring programs like GIMP and Affinity that are modern code and actually improving programs.

Consider, W-10 was given to us for retribution of previous sins, Windows ME, Windows 8 etc. I spent dear dollar$ buying them [What fools we mortals be] ! Microsoft make little or no money on W-10 and so how much budget do the provide to maintaining and "improving" it?? Little!

Trix, I concur 100%, he said stating the obvious.
Many folks just feel better after publicly displaying their martyrdom, I know that I do . . .Grin
It just makes me feel better flailing at a huge, faceless, and unreplaceable necessity.
(The preceding was a poor attempt at humor, sigh.)

I, too, am beginning to really dislike Win10 and its updates. I had an update a few days ago and it messed up my post-processing program (2 items lost and another not working). I'm a senior with Alzheimers and I find it next to impossible to "fix" problems. I got in touch with the post-processing company and had them remotely control my computer to get it back to working properly. Two hours later the portion not working properly was restored and the one item that was lost was restored. The other lost item is gone and the specialist could not get it back (I use it rarely but, when I do, it's been an important part of my work).

I leave my computer on 24/7 and I never notice that an update has occurred.

Another vote for 24/7.

Using a timer, I reboot once a week - occasionally more often if I've had too many programs running simultaneously and things have become confused - and the wireless router & modem reboot automatically twice a week in the middle of the night, thanks to a timer.

Very, very rarely have an issue.

Don't like the W10 menu system, so I use a W7 menu emulator, otherwise a happy camper, especially compared to older Win versions.

Also have an older (2012) iMac but much prefer the Win 10 machines.

If you've been having issues with updates and if your system allows it, I'd recommend delaying installation of updates by a few days.
