If you read the entire article about the miners you will find the quote from the mine owner saying that he did not pay the men because of a federal law that forbids paying workers to attend a political event: A law that the Democrats and Unions have no problem violating. The statement - Attendance was mandatory but no one was forced to attend the event., is common in business, although not usually stated in exactly that way. It simply means that we want you to attend but if you dont there will be no punishment. Not all of the miners attended and there are no reports that anyone was punished for not attending.

To call the founding fathers "hippies" is laughable. The founding fathers were not hippies of that time or any.

Our founding fathers were, by and large, the wealthy of their time, the 1% now so demonized by the left. They put everything they owned as well as their lives on the line, and gave the world "the worst form of government- except for all the others" (Winston Churchill). Winston meant it wasn't perfect- but far better then any other in existence.

The founding fathers were not anti-government, they were anti-imperialist, against the ever present meddling of the crown in every facet of an individuals life. They were against unfair and unequal taxes. They had a very clear idea of what a central government should do and put in place checks and balances to guard against it growing into ...well, exactly what it has become.

The angry white men you are talking about, are really the Jim Crow southern democrats who keep the "poor" folks in their place. They are just so much more clever about it then they used to be. They smile as they hand out shackles disguised as crumbs, using things like welfare, and food stamps, punitive laws and "free" this and that to keep their finger on the heads of the poor of every color so they can't ever come up for air. They buy their votes with the promise of entitlements. The more poor, the more people who depend on government, the more votes they get.

I will give you this, the left has been very successful at this tactic.

46 million using food stamps, 54 million on Medicaid or 1 in 6 Americans, ( up from 1 in 50 in 1964). Over 100 million Americans now receive some form of Government welfare.

I merely quoted Republican Senator Lindsey Graham's statement regarding Mitt Romney's chances of becoming president. Graham said and I quote:

Wilson (D) was 57 when he took us to war, Roosevelt (D) was 59 when we entered WW2, Kennedy (D) was 44 when he got us into Viet Nam, George W, Bush (R) was 55 when 911 occurred and Obama (D) was 50 when he took us into battle in Libya and Yemen without Congressional approval. None of these men where old by todays standards, however based on the record maybe it is democrat Presidents we should fear.

As far as the "Attendance is mandatory but no one will be forced" statement: when I was in the insurance industry it was quite common and I was usually one of the guys that did not show up. I never liked anyone telling me what I have to do on my own time. However, you are nit picking: the miners did not get paid because it is illegal to pay people to attend a political event. A fact that was left out of the original post.

Hindsight is always 20/20. The world was a completely different place 70 years ago when the Nazis were a threat. The men that fought in that war were young men just like those who are fighting in wars today. The military was segregated and if you were not white you knew place. That is bigotry. Now, the world has progressed as new young people have changed it to a very different place than it was 70 YEARS AGO. We can go back 50 years and find the segregation in society and the bigotry. Now the survivors of that age long for those days. These are the angry old men to whom I refer. Their world is gone...as it should be just as my world that I knew 40 years ago is gone.

Society experiences progress only when men with fixed thoughts die and are replaced by new thinkers. That's something you just have to over, old man.
