My Canon G1X m3 came with a tether for the lens cap. Then attaches to a the hook for a strap. Lens cap just hangs down but it is small cap. I don’t think there is a pendulum effect. Best not lose this. I see no replacement.

That's all well and good if you remember to use it in that fashion. However, have an answer to the problem of the lens cap falling off the lens and you don't notice it?

Shirt or pant pockets are great, but in my area in southeast Texas where the humidity is almost 90-95% I try to place the lid facing out so when I pull it out of my pocket, there is no humidity on the side that goes on the lens.

My approach was simple.

Drill tiny hole in lens cap.
Tie one end of a string to cap.
Tie the other end to the camera strap.

visiting a forum from a couple weeks ago. think I found THE (at least ) an answer to the loose lens cap syndrome. Attached pic should be self explanitory.

minor stroke of genious if I do say so myself.
I'll be checking my mailbox for the checks.

I recently made a series of lens caps that fit over my lens hoods. The caps are much easier to remove if you shoot from a tripod like I do. I got the idea from the Samyang lens hood that came with my 12mm full frame fisheye. I made some of the caps from PVC plumbing pipes with end caps and some from plastic jar lids. They do take up a bit more room in my bag but I can now sit my lenses down on just about any surface and they wont fall over.

I like the elastic bands that go around the lens. good when I’m in a hurry to catch a shot like BIF. It avoids dropping the lens cover, or having it fall out of my pocket.
I too like the elastic bands. Back in my SLR days, had one on each lens, with several extra in my camera backpack as the strings do occasionally break. Now I shoot with a bridge camera, so just attach the loop end to my camera strap, close to the camera. Yes, the cap does dangle, but rarely gets in the way. Just broke a string the other day (after several years), and couldn't believe what a PITA it was to have an unattached cap until I could replace the band.

Anyone got an extra $5 or so, there are lens cap retainer cords you can buy.

Whether you really need a hood or not, I
find that the hood keeps a "pinch-loaded"

and doesn't fly off to parts unknown.

Acoarst you could go further and line the
hood with velcro fuzz and also edge your
cap with the hook material :-)

Do NOT apply hooks and fuzz in opposite
manner as above, unless you want your
hood to accumulate massive amounts of
lint and such ! Plus, if you wear a knitted
sweater, you can stick your hook-edged
cap to yourself so you don't lose it ....

You're welcome ;-)

That's fine as long as the hood stays on. I've had a few of them that didn't snap on tightly; but, so far, I haven't lost one. I did try a lens keeper once but hated it. It was basically just a rubber band with a strap attached and a stickie piece at the end for the cap..

Now, when the camera comes out of the bag, the hood goes on and the cap stays in the bag.

That's not what Kathy says, but thank you! She was not an issued item! Remember that saying?

So if you tape a piece of velcro loop on your forehead, and tape a piece of velcro hook on the lens cap, then you can stick the lens cap to your forehead when you take it off the lens.

I use velcro on my lower back and upper buttocks so my ass doesn't fall off.
