Looks like he attached a Velcro strip to the lens cap and the mating side of the strip to something (someplace) else.

I just stick my lens cap in my pocket.

"What does one do with the lens cap when shooting?" maybe?

Here's a tip while waiting by your mailbox for those checks to pour in:
1. Dress warm.
2. Take food.

If you invented something to prevent the lens cap from flying out of my hand when I pinch it, I would be more likely to invest.

Whether you really need a hood or not, I
find that the hood keeps a "pinch-loaded"
cap that escapes my fingers from flying
away. It just hits the inside of the hood,
and doesn't fly off to parts unknown.

Acoarst you could go further and line the
hood with velcro fuzz and also edge your
cap with the hook material :-)

Do NOT apply hooks and fuzz in opposite
manner as above, unless you want your
hood to accumulate massive amounts of
lint and such ! Plus, if you wear a knitted
sweater, you can stick your hook-edged
cap to yourself so you don't lose it ....

You're welcome ;-)

Sorry, the picture is not self explanatory. For anyone who is careful when removing a lens cap, what seems to be a type of tethering in your photo is totally unnecessary. I haven't lost or misplaced a lens cap yet. I put it in my pants pocket when I start a shoot and put it back on my lens when done. Knowing that nothing is foolproof and accidents happen I always carry an extra lens cap in my camera bag. But, in all the years I've been shooting, I have never had a need for it.

It looks like the second piece of the velcro is attached to the triangular end of the shoulder strap pad.

Came up with this idea years ago - Velcro actually makes dots or oblongs just the right size. Then one day figured out what that watch pocket on my jeans was really good at doing! <grin>
