If you choose to only purchase a monitor calibrator software and don't wish to spend the additional bucks on the software versions of calibrators to get print matching software,
There is a company that does ICC printer profiles, Dry Creek Photo, so I have included the link to their home page which contains a wealth of information about monitor and printer calibrations. Their website provides in depth instruction on how to use color calibration for monitors but also printer profiles

I need to calibrate 3 PC monitors, 1 laptop, 1 printer and 1 plotter. Interesting though, thanks, I'll keep the address.

I've seen such discrepancies before on many products. Sometimes Amazon is not always the cheapest. So you have to shop around and compare, making sure you are comparing the identical products. In this case, they do look identical.

I have the ColorMunki Photo and have tried the ColoMunki Display. They both are excellent at calibrating the monitor. The difference is that the ColorMunki Photo calibrates your printer as well, which I found unreliable (calibrating the printer) The ColorMunki Display only calibrates the Monitor, and just as well as the ColorMunki Photo and is much cheaper. Here is a link to B&H, but I believe you may be find them for even less on ebay, etc. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?sku=798928&Q=&O=&is=REG&A=details

I had the Huey too and realized, after many bad prints, that it was worthless. The fact that you could change the settings to cool, warm etc. really did not make sense. If a monitor is calibrated correctly, there is no choice, it is what it is!

I really like the ColorMunki and have not been disappointed, but if I were to do it again, I would not buy the more expensive one (ColorMunki Photo). I would buy ColorMunki Display for about $169 or less. It's not hard to figure out which is which because there is such a huge price difference. I say that because the names can be confusing.

By the way, I contacted X-Rite by email once regarding the ColorMunki. They got back to me and they were very helpful.

Here is a link to a review on the product. Quite long, but will be useful if you decide to purchase it.

OnD that is one big price difference, $199 @ B&H vs $499 on Amazon. Of course Amazon's order is full filled by Ace photo so go figger.

I have both a colormunki and a spyder. Downside to spyder was mind was discontinue and could not use it with the newer software up grades(when mac switch to the intel chip). A number of hardware software had that problem. Switch to colormunki it is spot on for calibrating monitor dual display, laptop, cintiq and a projector. I have had very good luck calibrating my printer with it.

I have the Colormunki Photo and like it. I wouldn't say that the print paper is usless, but it's not going to get you exactly what you see on your monitor. I belive it has a lot to do with the quality of your home printer. I've used pro icc profiles and didn't get exactly the colors I have on my monitor either. To get the colors close on your printer it takes a lot of experimentation. As Wendy says, they work great on monitors unless you have a worthless monitor. One of my monitors is way out of spec and the Colormunki can't get it to look like the first monitor. That's what I get for buying a re-branded monitor.

Thanks again for all the responses, I should just go ahead and purchase the Spyder from B&H before they see what Amazon is charging. Unless of coarse there is a difference in product. It sure looks the same to me, I used the same pasted model # to search at both sites. I rather get it from B&H anyway. I can at least go there and pick it up and make sure it's the one I think I'm going with. I've seen some difference in pricing, but this is more like a cake sale.
Appreciate all the input.

Hi, I had that problem and it was eliminated when I started "soft Proofing" my shots before printng. Since I use PS5 I have "soft proofing" capabilities and it makes a world of difference in color matching and brightness. What the "proofing" does is mimic the look you will get with the paper and printer by using the ICC profile in the "proof", sometimes it is quite different. By creating a duplicate of your picture you are able to "tile" the shots (side by side) and then correct the duplicate, which is in "proof" mode to match the original. It works very well, I no longer have color or brightness issues with my prints. And yes, I use the Color Munki.

Sure would be interested in your findings once you have purchased the Spyder Doug. I am still on the fence as to which way to go. Cheers

Yes, I use the soft proofing too and it works to a certain degree. I calibrated my printer and paper and just was not happy with the results. I now use Costco paper with Ilford profiles and they look perfect.

I neglected to say that I have had very poor results with "Color Munki" custom profiles, I only use the profiles generated by the paper manufacture. My "Color Munku" profiles were not smooth in their generating process and across the board gave me poor flesh tones.

Maybe I'll wait for your results, I was going to go into the city tomorrow and pick up the same one...If I go without explicit direction, I'll end up buying another body or lens...like a kid in a candy shop.

Item due to be here on Thursday so if you can wait I'll let you know. Totally know what you mean about being a kid in a candy store, I could get carried away VERY easily, got my eye on a Canon 7D and I could drop another bucket load of money for lenses in a heartbeat. Thankfully that thing called responsibility kicks in. Cheers
