I must respectfully disagree. I have four friends who have traded in their 850s for the 500. They have stated that the 500 is far superior in every way. Based on their experience I have bought a 500 and I am thrilled it. I have also done extensive research that indicate the 500 is the better camera.

Really...REALLY? 4 friends who traded in their D850s for a D500??????Let's see some of your/their work. We started this topic about the crop capability of the D850. Let's see some of the crops from the crap you're laying out here!!!

So, this is based on opinions from some friends of yours???? I've owned both and have shot wildlife in all types of conditions. Your welcomed to your opinion, but it would hold more salt if you actually owned both cameras and shot wildlife with them, just saying..

You are right, I should have mentioned that I have actually used the 850 which is why I bought the 500. The 850 is a nice camera, but the 500 is a great camera. Your I input is always welcomed and appreciated.

This is very Hurtful. I offer my advice here as a service to the other members of this forum. My years of experience and extensive research make my opinions very valuable. I find your response very insulting

Regardless of what camera/lens combo
you use, filling the frame beats cropping
every day of the week.

I disagree. I cull out slightly flawed
fully-filled frames way too often. I'm
better off shooting in the [+/-] 75%
filled range, then tweaking the final
framing later. Acoarst, if you shoot
mainly still life, then I would have
no disagreement about shooting for
zero cropping.

Why am I one of the only ones to say this cropped shot is sadly lacking in image quality? Record shot at best.

I thought it was good considering how much it was cropped and not using a prime lens...I respect your work Fotoartist and ask if you have any examples of this degree of crop.

I respect this shot. It is a keeper as a rare bird shot. But I would keep it as a record shot only. Because it is not a good example of high Image Quality. I refer you to your own shot about 10 posts further down which has excellent Image Quality.

I'm not sure how you can say that? I have a D500 and use it with a Nikon 200~500. It's a great combination, the best I have ever owned. BUT, even with the 200~500 I almost always crop. I can't believe that a full frame with the 200~500 with the extra MP to play with wouldn't make the better wildlife photography set up. Were you're four friends who traded the D850 for the D500 wildlife photographers? If so, I have no doubt that they made a mistake. I would love to see some photos to make me change my mind.
I have a D610 and full frame is a whole n'other world. But it doesn't hold a candle to the capabilities of the D850. I lust after the D850. My birthday comes up not too far in the future, guess what my birthday present is going to be?
I love my D500 and I'm keeping it. But (MY) D850 and possibly a longer telephoto ( ) will be my go to wildlife set up and I'll never look back.

nope ! I've already asked for examples to justify his rant! I think that the D500 is a great wildlife/birding camera and gave it the merit that it deserves at the beginning of this topic. I was simply showing off the D850's crop capability! One thing that I didn't think about was when shooting action/BIFs that you have so much more frame to capture the action. Is the kingfisher crop a "great, sharp image...no but it was 1/4 of a mile out! Thanks Chief ! Now I feel even better about the money I spent!

My post Have as much validity as your’s do. You should be the one showing the money. You are a very condescending person. Based on your ridiculous post, I do not feel you know what you are talking about.
