The latest update to Win10 has caused my Dell all sorts of problems. I had to reinstall my Nik software because Windows no longer recognized it in Elements 14. That's the easy part. For the first two or three days I couldn't log into Windows; the white box appeared by I couldn't enter my "code".

gotta love update "improvements"

I know you can do that on Macs, probably ever since they abandoned Motorola processors in favor of the Intel architectures. I guess I assumed you suggested doing it on a non Apple Windows PC...my bad

I should have been a little more clearer - I should have said: "With Bootcamp installed on my iMac I could boot up on Windows OR Snow Leopard (iMac's OS at the time). Could not run both operating systems at the same time on an iMac, however...…….."

Are you having to re-open Photoshop, or can you see it as open when you ALT-TAB? It sounds like it is still open if you are clicking on the icon and not seeing the opening windows, but it is best to make sure. I did the latest update on Win 10 with no problems. But I am using PSE 15.

IMHO. Windows 10 is the best PC operating Microsoft has released. However, the OS does take more memory than XP but 8 GB should be plenty.

no, it's doesn't close down, but I do have to click on the icon on the task bar to access it again

I, too, find Win10 to be a real dog. It hides stuff. Win7 was clear and most usable. I Had to put a Win7 shell on it to make it somewhat usable.

It's a fairly stable OS but it's more labor intensive. I find the data mining intrusive and their 6 month upgrade (not update) have bricked a number of machines I've worked on. I'm not looking for an argument but this is the first time I've turned off their updates/upgrades process off in 20 years.

Do you use Adobe Bridge, then select all images to open in PS? I do on a Windows 10 and have opened up to 18 RAW files at the same time with no problem. I have 32GB of RAM. When finished with a file, I save it as a JPEG. After saving, I click on the little "X" next to the file or do a "CTRL W" to close it. Never had a problem. Always auto-updates.

yes, I use Bridge to open my NEF files and/or converted to DNG into ACR, proceed with the RAW edit and open as a JPEG into PS...finish the editing process there and do a "save as" into a folder...

Don't know if this is relevant to your issue? Have you installed the latest update to Win 10? I did and it caused serious issues. My laptop would just freeze up and I'd have to force shutdown. From my research I found that this update has been wreaking havoc with many. After some googling about the issue I did a clean install of Win 10 and solved the problem.

Microsoft has a well-documented history of disasters caused by Windows updates. I always wonder, "How can so many smart people be so stupid?"

The short answer is Windows 10 Sucks big time. I am a software developer and Windows 10 is one of the reasons I decided to go ahead and RETIRE. After doing Linux development for 15 years I was asked to do some development for a product using Windows 7.

I worked three years in that environment. It was OK. Windows 7 was probable the best version of Windows ever. XP was great also.

I developed a sub sea seismic recording system that could bring in 40,000 channels of seismic data sampling all 40,000 channels 500 times a second. Writing the data on a huge RAID. It was quite a feat. When Windows 10 came along we were lucky to sample 5,000 channels. Plus all the other &^%&* problems.

I am retired but doing embedded firmware developer for a few projects just to keep busy.

I suppose that could be true, since you are comparing Microsoft to Microsoft.

But I can assure you that there are better OS’s available than windows 10.

I have had too many problems with certain Windows 10 updates. There are many problems with them. And to help you with some of your problems Google Windows 10 update problems in your Google search. One of the problems that it sounds like your having is that your current software simply isn't supported be whatever version of Windows 10 that you are using. I myself have had this problem with one of the recent updates. Some of my software worked fine when I first switched to Windows 10, but after one of the updates froze me out of my computer and it took three months for me to find a solution, that software was no longer supported by Windows 10. That seems like the problem that you have. A possible solution to this is either buy the current version of your software (expensive) making sure that it supports Windows 10 or use the software that came with your camera making sure that it is updated and/or to support Windows 10. The latter choice you could use until you decide to purchase new software.
