Haven't checked that. It wouldn't affect my use case.
If I remember, I'll try this later today.

My use is for backup traveling/on the go. Is to have a second copy of the SD card (that I will stop using for the rest of the trip). So I wouldn't try to backup the same card with additions

I am using 64GB SD cards, which I do not erase, but keep as one form of backup. Each day while travelling, I backup the SD card to my MBP. As the SD Card fills up, without incremental backup, it takes longer and longer, while the number of folders grows, consuming memory unless you erase the older ones.

I understand. In my case I use either 64 or 32 cards.
Depending on the amount of pictures I take, the importance of the place, and how long the trip will take, I use each card for certain amount of pictures or days. After that amount, I just remove them from camera, make a backup with RavPower's device and store the card until I return.
This is why not having incremental backups doesn't affects my flow.

Although this is my intended flow, as I mentioned haven't tested with the new Filehub yet.
In addition to this I now have a D7200, with dual slots configured for duplication. So the Filehub would be the third copy of the images. Quite paranoid

I have done the comparison of sans laptop techniques for backup and will post it in a new thread.

I have both a WD Passport wireless Pro 2tb and the RavPower Filehub. I took 2 Portable HDs with these 2 options on vacation last year and used both to backup files for a month.

Both worked as expected. The only difference was the WD did not make multiple file copies if the card had a file that had already been backed up. The RavPower just made a new copy in a new folder regardless. The RavPower is also a battery bank and powered the HD while backing up files via the USB3 cable. Even with a separate HD, the price total with a RavPower is less than the WD.

I cannot recommend one over the other, both are capable. Portability is the same and I did make double copies on the 2 HDs with the RavPower. Simply because I did not take a laptop with me and had no intention of performing PP while on the trip. I verified the download via the wireless connection on my phone and moved on. My paranoia knows no bounds when on a trip I am unlikely to repeat, so I had the CF and SD card originals plus the WD and 2 HDD backups. Overkill, but I only added the RavPower to my current gear for this trip.

Thanks. I am glad that both solutions worked for you. I agree that you can't be too cautious when visiting a place you will never likely see again. Such will be my trip to Antarctica in December.

When using the RavPower Filehub, did you just use the pushbutton and wait for the SD indicator to stop flashing or did you also connect your phone via wireless to look at the files or to eject the HD?

The comparison study is now done at:

If you have any questions or comments, please post them there. Thanks again.

I tested both systems prior to going on my trip to verify the download worked as I wanted. I did not oversee the download via the wireless connection and simply pushed the button. Download was complete when the status light stopped flashing. WD and RavPower both downloaded the same way during my trip. I did look at the files via wireless once in a while, but stopped after the first few days since everything worked as wanted.

After download, I simply unplugged the HD, no unmounting required.
