The WD My Passport Wireless Pro USB 3.0 External Hard Drive, with it's SD slot, looks like a great way to back up images/movie clips from SD cards without using a laptop. Does anyone know of a flash drive equivalent, perhaps based on the Samsung T5 portable (up tp 2TB) solid state drive?

I have the RavPower FileHub 2019 (AC750: https://www.ravpower.com/p/ravpower-filehub-ac750-wireless-travel-router.html) paired with a WD My Passport SSD (https://shop.westerndigital.com/products/portable-drives/wd-my-passport-usb-3-0-ssd#WDBKVX5120PSL-WESN).

Can be more cumbersome than a single piece of hardware, but works fine for me. You can then buy more external storage units or bigger ones, without updating the FileHub.

The real utility of the WD My Passport is the SD slot and its automatic backup. To accomplish this, you need interposing software to detect the memory card and start the backup, which a flash drive does not have.

I found the WD software to be abysmal in its set up and use, and went with the LaCie DJI CoPilot instead.

It has the added benefit of allowing me to connect to my iPad on long flights and watch MP4 movies. Copying movies to an iPad outside of Apple Movies or iTunes is waaaaay to much trouble.

somebody spoke of a LaCie unit recently, that had a SD card slot, screen to see things, etc.; think it was about $450; all of a sudden, can't remember the name of the unit; if anyone does, can that someone compare it to this DJI CoPilot unit ?

The link posted by rgrenaderphoto shows that the DJI Copilot is made by Lacie. It looks good, with 2 TB for $349.

Gnarbox 2.0. A Kickstarter project that just started shipping last month. I just got mine and it’s a fantastic product. Plug your SD card in to backup. Choose a preconfigured folder structure and backs up really quickly. Photos can then be accessed and post processed with a phone or tablet. Great product and very well made IP67 so you can take it anywhere.

Thanks to all who replied. I found a MyPassport Wireless SSD WD, answering my original question, at https://www.techradar.com/reviews/wd-my-passport-wireless-ssd
But it looks very expensive...about $700 for 2TB and there are many negative reviews. There seem to be many available alternatives:
Two box solutions:
1. RavPower File Hub 2019 + WD My Passport SSD (as posted by juan_uy)
2. RavPower File Hub 2019 + Samsung T5 portable (up tp 2TB) solid state drive
3. Kingston Mobilelite Wireless Pro + WD My Passport SSD
4. Kingston Mobilelite Wireless Pro + Samsung T5 portable
Single box solutions:
5. Lacie DJI CoPilot (link posted by rgrenaderphoto)
6. MyPassport Wireless SSD WD
7. Gnarbox 2.0 (As just posted by Jagnut07)

Comments based on your experience will be much appreciated. I will be doing a comparison to decide which way to go to avoid hauling my MacBook Pro (or it's new 16" replacement) to Antarctica in December.

Although they are the most expensive options, I think I would go for Lacie or Gnarbox if I could afford them.
The ruggedness that they add, and being a one-box solution, I think they make a better option for Antartica.

Also, check operating temperatures of each option, "just in case"

From personal experience, I can only comment on the option I suggested, and my experience is limited. Just bought the RavPower a month ago, and have only make tests on it (very fast and reliable so far). No field real-world usage yet.

Gnarbox is not really a portable backup device but designed to allow you to store files (512Gb is not really enough) and share them with other users. Really designed for video workgroups. Plus locate on Amazon and read the amazingly negative reviews.

The LaCie Boss has 2 Tb of space which is more than enough for whatever I shoot each day.

Not sure where you get the idea that the Gnarbox is not a back up device? I have a ver 2.0 with 1 TB of fast Nvme memory and that’s exactly what I use it for. I plug in my SD card and it does a completely automatic back up. From there I can use either the”Select” program on my iPad with wireless connect to rate my photos for later use. Or I can run Lightroom on the iPad to post process any photos and send them. I expect you are talking about the version 1.0 which is a completely different animal. I looked at the Lacie boss originally and decided to wait for the Gnarbox 2.0 to ship. Which I did and glad I did so. Works great for me.

I am working on a comparison spreadsheet and ran across this review:
https://havecamerawilltravel.com/photographer/ravpower-filehub/
It includes a comment that the RavPower does not support incremental backup, but creates a new timestamped folder each time you transfer data from a SD card to the SSD. Does yours do that?

Haven't checked that. It wouldn't affect my use case.
If I remember, I'll try this later today.

My use is for backup traveling/on the go. Is to have a second copy of the SD card (that I will stop using for the rest of the trip). So I wouldn't try to backup the same card with additions
