I'm like most of you folks when it comes to my photos. When I ask for an honest critique from my friends and family, they make me feel like I'm the greatest person to hit the shutter release. I'm looking for genuine constructive comments. I want to keep on proving in my hobby.
Thanks!
Stephen
Do you have a photo to be looked at?

I can't speak for others. I can only say that I'm still a hobbyist when I started in 1976. With that being written, please let me know when you can critique me and I can critique you.
Happy Shooting!

Sign in to the facebook group Photography Help - Tips, Techniques, and Critiques. Mind you, you will get a solid critique AND editing you photo is allowed by others. I stress the editing as some get tight in the posterior over this last issue. That said, all the words in the world can't describe say a crop, or brush some area, or white balance, hue, etc etc. Not every photo gets edited and not everyone agrees but you will get some great and polite suggestions.
Looking for a good critiques by friends just does not work.

On the HOG don't react negatively unless asked to do so... and if you praise everything in the gallery you will fit in perfectly.
New members quickly learn not to offer criticism or any professional guidance, even if qualified.

Then, Stephen, post your photo's here and ask. I am sure you will receive comments.
Most people are not qualified to critique art of any kind. They simply like it or not. You should be grateful that friends and relatives compliment you on your work. On UHH there is no shortage of people willing to point out errors and shortcomings.
The last photo you posted to UHH appears to have been in 2016. You asked for post-processing assistance. One person said you should go to that section without telling you how to get there; another gave a bit of very basic advice (that was me
)
Click on "all sections" at the bottom of this page. In For Your Consideration, you will receive honest opinions if you ask, just as you will in Landscape and many others. Photo Critique has lost its moderators, but if you point out you posted there (some only see via "upcoming" and don't know where they are, lol) and especially if you ask for in-depth critique, there are still some folks checking that section who will accommodate. Note that there is a Post-Processing forum also.
I have seen many topics in Photo Gallery that
ask for feedback, and receive valuable comments. The general problem is that most feedback is subjective and personal preference. And if someone doesn't know your goals - even if just for a specific photo - then their observations may miss the mark. Give a lot of information upfront about what you like and dislike about your own shot.
As catchlight suggests, there are a few pro photographers on UHH and amateurs with judging experience. I suggest reaching out via private message to anyone whose photos you admire or whose advice you seek.
But first give a try to one or more of the volunteer-moderated areas ("all sections"). You must subscribe to the ones of interest if you want to follow other postings in "newest topics" at the top of this page. (if you are using the emailed daily digest, you must be logged in before viewing or you still won't see them)

I thought you weren't supposed to post photos in the "Main" section except for illustrative purposes to support an ongoing discussion. But I can't remember where I read that...😡

Photo Gallery. Stickied topic on first page:
https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-426-1.htmlThere might be something in main discussion's stickied topic also; I am about to read it

Sometimes missing in feedback, even from those who are experienced and qualified, is the lack of explanation - the
why of their suggestions. If the why is not given, you should ask! That's another reason why stating your goals and interests in the topic opening is valuable: people will be more likely to attempt to see through
your eyes - to help you reach your own potential, not be a copycat of them.
