I have almost 2000 books and magazines on my e-reader and in my archive files. This can keep me entertained a long time.
Then there are the 1000+ music CDs between my collection and our oldest son's.
And the several hundred movies and TV shows on DVD around the house.

Radical solution, visit a friend or meet at a nice coffee shop and talk

Or, now hold onto your chair-this is an even more radical idea: Go out and do some photography!
Try reading a good book. br I have almost 2000 boo... (show quote)

Yes, sir!!!

Would it be a detriment to this photography forum if we didn't have The Attic? We have Chit-Chat to discuss non-photographic topics, but do we really need a place for the kinds of discussions that go on in The Attic? I know it's not going to be removed, but I wonder if it's necessary. Other forums I'm on have sections related to the subject of the forum - not even Chit-Chat. It's only because people can't control themselves that The Attic was instituted. If you've been on UU long enough, you'll remember that all that nastiness used to be posted in the Chit-Chat section.

I had a diatribe meet the criteria forThe Attic. It was un intentioned but I understand it's purpose here on UHH. With that being written, I shall be mindful of any new topics I wish to create. Again, I offer my humble apology to the administrators.

I thought about it but seeing as we are in cold spell, only 110 degrees I'm afraid of frostbite.

Got a macro lens? That and a table plus some little things that would make an interesting image will let you do photography while hugging your AC.

With due respect and I know it is hard to believe but not everyone shares your incredibly exciting interests. In particular I personally do some reading, quite a bit of photography, some hunting and fishing and love movies of all types. Yet I enjoy The Attic. By the way haven’t I seen you there recently?

Jerry would it be a detriment to you if the photography discussion was done away with? I don’t see a lot there that interests me so let’s just get rid of it. I am sure I am not the only one who feels this way.

Oh WAIT!!! If that is how I really feel, it isn’t, I can simply not click on it. Even better I can stop that part of my UHH subscription.

Damn that was easy. Maybe we should all take a lesson from this. You don’t like it then don’t do it.

I agree with Dave, who cares. It serves two purposes: First it lets people who have no one to talk to express their feelings to a live audience. I've been there a couple of times and it's really a lonely feeling. Second it allows a place for mean spirited people to meet with other mean spirited people and be mean without bothering us.

Your right Jerry, but it is a place for liberals to go to defend their ideas and feelings unsuccessfully.
Furthermore, it’s more of an entertainment forum, moore than anything else.
Maybe think of it as an intellectual gladiator arena for political speak.

Jerry,

If you don't care for the discussions in the Attic then maybe you should not go in there, and if you are going in there and it is making you angry then the simple answer is stop going in there.

I see nasty folks out in the photography forums as well if the truth be told, at least in the Attic they have come to know each other and no one gets blindsided.

The Attic is the 3rd most trafficked forum on the site, it is a revenue generator.

Yes I have been in the Attic when something I was following got kicked over there.
I unsubscribed from the Attic back in early 2017 because though there were people there I could have an intelligent conversation with about controversial subjects, even ones we disagreed over, but the Adam Henries and potty mouths would jump in and spoil it. There were a couple who would jump into a conversation just because I was there (they did the same thing to other people). I just got tired of it.

I didn't list all my hobbies or pass times: target shooting (Hunting and fishing just aren't the same when you have to prepare and make it a real trip to get somewhere-I grew up being able to hunt or fish within walking distance.), I belong to the operations department of a Railway Museum. A few other things on rare occasions.

I've never been on a forum with an attic before. I have been on a few with basements. When advertisers pay by the click we are lucky to have the attic, or much more crap would wind up where we really don't want it.

I never go there.

I am surprised that it is #3 in traffic. I'm glad they're helping to keep the site up and running.
