The Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker is a military aerial refueling aircraft. Both the KC-135 and the Boeing 707 airliner were developed from the Boeing 367-80 prototype.

The Tall Ship Windy, sailing from Navy Pier in Chicago, is a 148-foot, traditional four-masted gaff topsail schooner. She was awarded the status of official flagship of the City of Chicago, by Mayor Richard M. Daley in 2006.

Digital images shared in this post were captured in RAW using an EOS 5DIII, EF 500mm f/4L IS II and EF Extenders 1.4x and 2x for a 700mm and 1000mm extended configurations. Processing was performed in Lightroom and noise processing in Topaz DeNoise6.

Big Red started life as a World War II trainer for naval aviators in 1940. Boeing built more than 10,000 of the Stearman Model 75. After WWII the surplus aircraft became popular as crop dusters, sports planes, and for aerobatic and wing walking use in air shows.

Excellent set of photos, Paul.

Side note: I was privileged to take a ride in a KC 135 on a refueling mission when I was teaching off-campus at Grissom AFB several years ago. It was an awesome experience to get to lie in the tail with the boom operator while he was refueling a fighter jet.

Paul, that KC-135 brought back some wicked memories. We crash landed in one of those in Blythville Arkansas when the landing gear wouldn’t open. No one hurt, stirred, not shaken. Quite the adventure.
