I forget the name of the park that has an excellent view of Cathedral Rock at a vortex site. Get there as early as possible before the tour buses arrive. If the stream is low enough to cross, the better compositions are on the other side.

From the "other side"

Do the Pink Jeep tour - go where others fear to go. Try a helicopter ride to get a different view.

I recommend Arizona Safari Jeep Tours (with Captain Jack as the guide if possible and gives you all the time you want for photos and stopping where you want--very accommodating). If I recall, ASJP uses larger vehicles and may be less bumpy than the pink. The helicopter tours are good for the vistas you cannot get otherwise.

You will not really see the most beautiful parts unless you take the helicopter tour.
They take you were there are no roads.

I second this it is an excellent tour just don't have any loose items hanging as they may get pulled out and strike tail rotor.
Our pilot ex military was excellent and did multiple passes so I could get the shot. You will see ancient Indian rock dwellings and unique rock formations

The picture is of Red Rock Crossing. I highly recommend it as a nice leisurely walk along Oak Creek. I live in Cottonwood nearby and know the area very well. Have a good trip.

There are many good trail guide books available in shops in town. West Fork is a must, but plan on getting your feet wet. Chapel in the Rocks is a must, (the name I gave isn't quite right, but it is close). Bell rock in Oak Creek. Red Rock State Park has an easy trail to some beautiful shots. Everywhere you turn there are photo ops. Have fun and please post your shots.

I agree with West Fork but it is only worth going when the leaves are turning around the middle of Oct. Then it is spectacular! I go there every year. Avoid weekends; long waits on parking.

I have been to Sedona. The problem isn't what to photograph, it's how do you stop! Everywhere is photo worthy. Bring extra memory cards and try not to wear yourself out in one day! I also recommend an all in one zoom lens(18-200 for example), the trails can be very dusty, not a good place to be switching glass around.

The presence of dust is good point. There is so much to shoot almost anywhere you are, I would favor versatility over prime optics just to keep from changing lenses.

Lots of photo ops in Sedona. Most are local. Make sure you drive up to the top of the hill overlooking Sedona. Great view. Maybe shoot for sunset.

Are you planning on going to Grand Canyon? You can do a day trip there.

These recommendations are based on my trip to Sedona and GC 16 years ago.

Check out Boynton Canyon in Sedona. There is a nice rock formation called Kachina Woman. If you are not up for hiking the trail there, you can get nice shots from the Enchantment Resort (yes, it’s a real place). I would call ahead to be sure you can park there if you are not a guest. I don’t remember if there was any other nearby parking.

Another place to check out is Montezuma Castle (Native American cliff dwellings) nearby Sedona.

If you also play golf, check out the Robert Trent Jones designed Oak Creek Country Club in nearby village of Oak Creek. There are great red rock views from the golf course. Just don’t slow down play if you are taking pictures.

At the Grand Canyon check out Lookout Lodge for some incredible views...then again, anywhere in Grand Canyon has an incredible view.

Have fun!!!

I know this has been asked before, but I forgot to save the great suggestions. Am going to Sedona for a week and would like photo recommendations for the area.

Oak Creek Canyon! Dozens of great places to shoot, maybe hundreds!
