We will be traveling to FL from MN in March. I am hoping to spend time in Tennessee. Where do I go? Do you have a favorite spot that is fun to photograph? I have been to the airport, which is the sum total of my experiences in Tennessee. Thanks.
Retirement Travel. Go where you want to go. See what interests you. Beauty is all around you. Interesting photo's will follow. You might not like screaming kids at Dollywood but great shots can be produced there, look for the obscured shot and your abilities to improve your skill level will rise. Life is a journey not a destination, all to be photographed. When you think you have mastered one element of photography move on to something a little more challenging that you might be interested in like night photography, star trails, air shows, HDR, flash, close-up. You will never run out of things to shoot.

Nashville has numerous buildings with art on the brick walls. The Bat Building,AT&T building, downtown is also a very unique photography opportunity. Plenty of street photography as well. Franklin, which is 20 minutes south of Nashville on I 65, is well known for its Civil War history. The only private Confederate Cemetery is located there as well as other significant historical sites that make for great pictures. The Smoky Mountain area is about a 3.5 hour drive from Nashville/Franklin. Don’t miss Cade’s Cove if you go there. It’s in the National Park. You may get some pictures of stupid tourist running from bears after getting to close to them trying to get pictures.

Go to Knoxville and visit the Body Decomposing farm. Knoxville
The original body farm is the University of Tennessee Anthropological Research Facility located a few miles from downtown on Alcoa Highway in Knoxville, Tennessee, behind the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

I am looking forward to mountains! I have spent time in VT, but have missed mountains for a while. Thank you. Added to the list.

If you're looking for mountains go west, not east. I drove all the way to the east coast 2 summers ago looking for mountains and didn't see one.

In KY rather than TN, but if you sign up far in advance you can get a hard hat tour of the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. It goes from aging barrel production to bottling. I'm not sure of they allow photography but it was interesting.

Try Tripadvisor.com or just google your destination. You will get a lot of useful information there.

I agree with everything you have heard so far...except......Graceland is amazing. I don't know when bokken was there; but the entire facility, other than the house, is new (over the last 3 years). You should also plan to go to certain restaurants/food trucks. I'm sure you can get loads of suggestions..

TN is a beautiful place to visit and depending on your route can be very photogenic. Depending on when you go in March is key as that is the BIG month for spring breakers there and in FL. Nashville, Knoxville, Smokey Mts,Cade’s Cove all afford photo opportunities and more. Asheville and Charlotte NC are great too. Not knowing how much time you want to spend in the area or your route to FL is also limiting. Send a message as we travel various ways to Fl each year and have done it almost 10 years

Starting in late March and continuing through most of April, in the Tennessee mountains, and Great Smokey Mountains National Park in particular, the spring ephemeral wildflowers are simply spectacular. I go every year.
