That is a BIG rig to be handholding at an airshow - you must be well conditioned ! .....thanks for sharing

Sad note on Oshkosh - 2 fine men and long-time pilots lost their life 5 minutes after taking off from Americus, GA headed to this air show. Life is crazy. RIP Mike & Edd.

What shutter speed did you use?

Wonderful, I could almost hear the Corsair's engine throbbing. Nice work!

I saw the metadata on the flicker pages. I am going to an air show next week and had previously shot at 1/160, but now know I can halve that and still get a nice prop blur.

BTW, Excellent shots!

Thank you maxlieberman! The shutter speed depends somewhat on the specific prop plane. Say for helicopters, I'm finding the best results at 1/100. Most of my prop planes are 1/250 with some of the high aerobatics coming out better at 1/400. My own biggest issue is flipping back n forth shutterspeeds for jets and props where sometimes I was still at 1/1000 after a jet demo was over.

Thank you Larry, Bird Dawg, Dick! The roar of the planes is fun, particularly for me, the T-6 Texans.

I understand, CHG Canon. Last time I shot an air show, I shot the Thunderbirds at ISO 2500 so I could use a shutter speed of 1/8000 and still have a functionally narrow f stop. Got wonderful pictures, despite the high ISO. I used a shutter speed of 1/160 at ISO 100 for P-51s and AT-6s, and got nice prop circles, but I can go faster now and have less worry about camera shake, as I will be shooting with a Sigma 150-500 on a Nikon D-7100. Fortunately, the lens has an optical stabilization feature good for about 3 stops, so shooting at 1/320 should be fine.

The Demon-1 biplane, known as "Dracula", was originally conceived by Kyle Franklin and his late father Jimmy. Dracula combines the pleasing lines of the iconic Waco Mystery Ship with modern aerodynamics and systems, resulting in a smaller, lighter, significantly more maneuverable and powerful airplane.

EAA AirVenture Oshkosh is an annual gathering of aviation enthusiasts held each summer at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The airshow is sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), an international organization based in Oshkosh, and is the largest aviation-related gathering in the world. Wonderful images, as usual, Paul!

The pilot’s aft position in Dracula tells me there must be a helluva an engine in that airframe! And the juxtaposition of the beautiful Mustang with the wicked F-22 sure emphasizes the size of modern fighter aircraft.

Fantastic ...Paul and thanks again for these amazing pieces of history. That Dracula would have also been a perfect plane for Batman as well and is my favorite of the set. Thanks again.
