KEH had a buying event recently at a dealer at King of Prussia, PA. They sometimes have a deal that you get 10% more if you buy something at the store. You will always take a loss when you see equipment, but I'd rather have the cash in hand than having equipment just sitting there. They actually gave me more than I expected and I used it to buy the new Tamron 17-28 for Sony. I converted to Sony from Canon after 30+ years - no regrets; one of my buddies converted around the same time. The menu takes a bit getting used to but the technology is amazing. You mentioned full fame, but they may have two new APS-C cameras coming out at the end of the month. I have also dealt with Roberts camera and found them to be quite fair. Lastly, I've had good luck with buying lenses from both. Good luck.

Yes they offered me an additional 5% if I buy something from them. So that would be another $500 bucks

No company is going to give you much as they have to make a profit and still undercut the competition.

Why a Sony A7iii and not the new A7Riv (61MP !)?

Probably because very few people actually require the resolution and huge files!

I had an A7R II and its 42 MP files were too large.

I've decided to sell all my Nikon to KEH except for my D850 and 5 prime lenses. And will get the Sony A7iii and a couple of primes. I'm thinking of trying the system for a few months and then just sell off the rest of my Nikons and spend that on more glass. At 72 I just feel this is the way to go. And I believe that mirrorless is the foreseeable future. Plus my Granddaughter is using mirrorless and she wants nothing to do with DSLRs. I'm sure I will be taking a loss as opposed to selling private but I've got 30 something items and I just don't look forward to selling private from past experience. Does anyone have experience dealing with KEH? They seem like a good company to deal with

I am making a similar decision. I bought the Sony a7iii last fall and ever since, the Nikon gear has been sitting on the shelf. I have 4 lenses for the Sony. Today I bought the Sony a6400 and 16-70 f4 lens for an even lighter kit.

However, I will post items here first before I give KEH my equipment. They will only give me a third of what I can get on my own.

You will love the a7iii. Keep on shooting!!

As an ex - Nikon user I could not find a decent adapter for Nikon to Sony E mount when I changed to Sony. The only properly decent adapter is the Sigma MC11 which is made for Canon to Sony; but even that is not as good as native Sony glass.

I tried an adapter for my Nikon glass on my Sony camera also and I was not happy with it, so I returned it. Plus it defeats the purpose of going smaller.

This is an enlightening thread. Some of you guys have quite a collection of equipment! Sheesh! I’m piddles in comparison with a Nikon FE2 and a couple low-end DX Nikons. Was going to upgrade to a D7200, but looking at the Sony a7iii, it seems that’s the way to go w a Sony 24-140mm lens. I’m thinking I can learn and grow with this camera for a while. Smart move? Thanks for the feedback.

Going to a FF mirrorless is not going to save you much weight or bulk, especially if you use long lenses a lot.
The Sony FE 28mm F2.0 and FE 50mm f1.8 are very light and compact, but the G and GMaster lenses are pretty heavy.
If you really want to save weight, go with one of the A6xxx series bodies and the APS-C lenses.

The “high end” lenses for mirrorless bodies are indeed no lighter than the DSLR “high end” lenses, but the FF mirrorless Sony bodies are significantly lighter than the FF DSLR bodies and I’ll take it when I can. I just need to figure out whether I can deal with the EVF.

This is correct. I started my switch to the Sony a7iii hoping to reduct weight. As I got into the particulars I (like many times before) got distracted and went for low light and the full frame camera. Now I have about the same weight as my dslr but I'm not sorry I switched.

The difference in body weight is trivial and some Sony lenses are actually heavier than their Nikon or Canon counterparts, so the net difference is rarely noticable. Weight is primarily a function of format, not camera type. In fact, a smaller lighter body with a heavy lens can feel unbalanced and harder to hold than a larger body. If you want to save weight, change frormats (and accept the compromises inherent in a smaller sensor).

Max performance = weight/size = $. No free lunch.

It's beyond me to understand why someone with a truckload of presumably good Nikon glass would want to sell it at loss and go Sony, starting a new system from scratch, when Nikon has 2 excellent mirrorless bodies - Z6 and Z7 with more models coming next year. Just my $0.02.

If you can get used to Sony's menu system and buttons without too much frustration I think you will be happy you made the decision. My wife and I have four Sony's between us including the A7III and they are excellent cameras.

My experience with KEH was not favorable. They won't give you very much for your equipment. You will get more if you sell on ebay. It's more work but you will have more $$ in the end.

It's more work for the folks at KEH also, and they have to get paid for that work. They also pay shipping.

Personally, my recent experience was better than expected. They provided the shipping label, made an offer within 7 days. Once I accepted the offer I had my check in 3 business days.

I guess like with everything else, different strokes for different folks.
